Well, I've recently been thinking about trying to obtain a career within London's finest police force - the Met!

Anyone here work/ed as a PC that could give me more insight as to what the job is like? Even if you haven't your opinion is still welcome and I would like to know if any of you have ever thought about doing it.

The force not recruiting? Damn, I guess more and more people are trying to work for the public sector, especially with this financial crisis. I wonder if the Met is recruiting?

join the army instead. You get weapons! much better fun.

On the downside the pay isn't so good :-(

Haha, weapons are great fun but I would rather help in sorting out problems at home. And yeah you're right, the pay these soldiers get is disgusting for someone putting their life in such risk.

You are right mate .. they don't get paid enough but as they say "If you cant take a joke you shouldn't have joined".

As for sorting out problems at home .. **** it mate .. its beyond sorting .. would be nice though, good luck to you

Who wants to spend all night chasing joy riders, just for the magistrates to give em a slap on the wrist and let them go next morning. fook that.

Like I said, join the army .. much better satisfaction if you can live with it afterwards of course. The future does look bleak.

I did 14 years in the Army and loved it, its not the same now though, you can expect a 7 month stint in Iraq or Afghanistan every 18 months.

You have to look at things in perspective though mate. Fair enough, our justice system is shit and jails are loaded so most people are getting off relatively easy with crimes. But what you have to remember is that police not only arrest someone for committing a crime, but they also prevent crime.

Amen mate .. I only did 5 years and that was enough. In that time I did NI twice, bosnia and Rawanda.

Back to the Police, I have a few mates who are Police officers, and they are overworked and understaffed due to tight budgets, and for 1 arrest there is 4 hours paperwork. to say they are fed up is an understatement.

My Mrs works for the police and I agree with what Kim just said .. They are overworked but .... They get paid well enough TBH and god forbid you take away overtime, apparently it is a right in the police force LOL
