basically

"sir there is a large object on sonar"

"move towards it quickly, it might be treasure"

How the hell did this happen, it was in the Atlantic Ocean, not a small place is it. and with Sonar technology of today???? I would have thought they would have seen each other coming 20 miles away etc.

The whole point of the subs is not to be detected, hence why they didn't "see" each other.

What is stunning is the fact that they were both operating in the same area without letting each other know. According to the article, the UK & US have an arrangement so as to avoid this type of thing.

Doh!

First two Satellites collide in the vastness of space...... Now two submarines in the Atlantic ocean.... what next if things come in threes ?

sounds like they were playing the close war games chestnut and just come unstuck:rolleyes:
