i just wanted to know how easy it would be to take the gear box out and change the clutch myself as i dont want to pay out £300 plus if i can do it myself. im going to get a manual and the parts and there will be 3 of us doing it all with decent mechaical skills is this an easy job

Sure if yer half decent with a spanner and many have done it themselves too.

Because of this, pretty much any decent garage can do the job as well.

I've not personally known anyone to pay a garage more than 230 quid though and have seen some here pay as low as 150 for cash!

£300 is a bit steep. But yeh its no different to any other RWD car to do.

 

To get to the top gearbox bolts undo the 6 bolts on the mount at the back of the gearbox so the rear drops (undo the gearstick linkage first or you will damage the rubber gearstick mount), then loosen the engine subframe bolts (but dont remove) and you will be able to access the top bellhousing gearbox bolts much easier, either by reaching up from the side or by using a series of ratchet extensions to reach from the back of the box to the front.

 

oh and Support the box before undoing the last bolt...it hurts if it falls on you lol

 

A clutch alignment tool is handy, but you can do it by eye.

was a bugger stabbing it back in tho :( took me a while especialy on the drive way :(
