Stupid me forgot to order two water hoses instead I ordered one :headvswal Well I hope that is everything. Just the bearings but will get the engine shop to give me sizes then I can order them. Still need to check the valve guides to see if I need them too.

Cheers,

Ant

If it does need new guides, its usually the exhaust ones which suffer, dont get new ones as the cost of them plus the fitting is extortionate.Get the machine shop to fit sleeves in the old guides. They are readily available and can be reamed to the size of the valve for a long lasting cost effective repair.

Ok that's great. I will keep that in mind.

im finished with that now bud so il drop it back round ec this week. many thanks

How did you get on mate?

What thickness Cometic Head Gasket would you recommened I should get on this setup?

Thanks,

Ant

If you are changing thickness of gaskets you will need vernier pulleys of somesort, believe it or not!

Before anyone questions this, i think the rule goes, to every 1 thou, you are retarding or advancing the original design of the cam and profile timing to 1 degree, hence the reason to replace the original with verniers.

See, check it if you dont believe me:D

Have a read up on it mate, its something that very very few people know a lot about really and my knowledge isnt enough, but what i do know is valve timing is the most crucial part of an internal combustion engine, if you were to alter the original design you could effectivly lose peak pressure on at TDC, however, obviously it all depends on how much is removed or added to the compression.

The average size used is 1.2mm or 051".This will account for the average losses due to skimming.Any increase in compression will be so minimal if any it wont be worth worrying about.I can assure you it wont be a problem.

Yeh i wouldnt say its an issue to worry about, just something to be aware of.

Having said that, a friend of mine who has absolutely no knowledge of how an engine should be built, has a spacer fitted between the block face and head of an engine about 10mm thick to decompress, surely that must effect valve timing/compression issues even at a small amount.

I'll stop worrying then :)

A shim that big would cause issues.Ive fitted similar but much smaller shims on rover k series heads that have been skimmed to the limit.

Oh, hes had issues alright! Lol

that looks a serious spec engine! I wish thee the best of luck!

Cheeky wee question though... how much it cost you so far?

To be honest I have lost count. As some of the parts I have bought over the last 18 months. The list on the second page come to just over £2,000. The bits from the first page which I already have or were on there way come to I think around £3,000.

I still have other stuff to pay out, parts I've forgot about, chroming, engine work and other problems that crop up when doing a rebuild.

This is the first time I have added up and didn't realise how much I have spent so far  Never mind.
