Is it still The Beast for East, or has someone else taken over?

Any pictures and specifications would be great.

any recommendations?

On dyno to use ? or what to run on the dyno?

Dyno to use, shouldn't matter they should all give roughtly the same readings unless they have been tampered with. Would be good to do a Surrey Rolling road meet, that was good fun. not sue if Jimmer has been banned yet for re painting the car park :)

I would personally see if you can get a couple of runs in with a cool off period between them. Start with about 17 psi and raise 2 psi after each run checking fuel levels and listening for any signs of stress.

Your car should be good for up to about 24PSI on Optimax. But obviously this has never been tested so I would take it easy to start with.

At the end of the day the dyno is just a number. The fact that each of us enjoys improving our cars and adding the personal touches to make them our own is what counts.

But didn't the car max out the one you took gubby on??

TBH measuring at the hub is probably a more accurate way of measuring! The wheels are removed & the dyno is bolted directly to the rear wheel hubs measuring the power. It means you get no losses from slip between the tyres & rollers.

The only thing with Hub dynos is they give a greater bhp figure than normal dynos, because of the reduced weight and lack of slip and one in particluar is renowned for giving inaccurate figures:crying:

All I know is my car is still top of the board and I haven't even bothered to measure it with the NOS running yet :devil2:

All joking aside there are some cracking cars being talked about here but are they just about the numbers? I could easily get bigger numbers by raising boost but lose the reliabilty. I've done a lot of miles since Dan built this engine and have had no problems apart from the odd pipe coming off under high boost :) I take both my cars out virtually every weekend and enjoy them.

I would definitely be up for a meet with some of the big boys. What about a track day at Silverstone or something like that?? Better still what about joining me one sunday to do some stalking lol.

are you comng to japfest?

Jorgen,

why not share your dyno graphs, no need to limit this to the uk and would be interesting to see how your turbos perform

I know - I recon I would have hit around 600BHP when mine was on the dyno based on the amount of tyre smoke that was in the workshop!!

Hub dynos just give bigger numbers. They're certainly not less accurate and in fact Dan Turner will have one in his workshops within the next two months as he believe's they provide more accurate readings with which to tune the car.

If we can arrange a trackday of some kind at Silverstone June/July we could also do a dyno shootout on Dan's dyno which is about two miles from the track :)

This was ment as a UK-list but I can show my DYNO-results with no intentions interfering with the list.

The numbers come from a hub-dyno (DYNOPACK) and the results shown are flywheel-horses. If you pull out 8% from the numbers, you`ll get the rwhp.

We got a air leakage in one rubber tube, so we stopped at 1,68 BAR. The tube was fixed some days later and pressure was then increased to 2,0 BAR. I need to go back to the DYNO to find out if 2.0 BAR has increased power, I don`t know this yet.

They are more accurate ways of tuning a car, but one hub dyno in particular is renowned for giving dynos figures that makes the customers smile:wink:

I remember hitting 560 HP at 1.4 bar a few years ago on a RR....

but figure Jorgen's set-up has/had mine way stomped.... even if on a hub dyno

well you lot keep raising your boost to get more power but I hope you got a resident mechanic to keep it running lol. Personally I struggle to do a lot and hence why I need the longer service intervals. Hub dyno or whatever, in fact all we have to do is record bhp at the fly and this will even it out. My 504 is rwhp but next time I go to get motor tuned will most likely be done on a new hub dyno :)

Regarding silverstone I have had a chat with Goldtrack who can do something. Need to know if we might have issues with noise so does anone know likely db for their modified zed to give me a feel for it?

You are right that it is demanding maintenance on this level and that you need a mechanic nearby. But I have made attempts to see how far you really can go,- the car was used over a period of 2 months with 2,3 bar pressure. At his level the maintenance demand was huge. I believe that 2,0 will be a level of maintenance that will not kill me, but I have to be on the alert. I feel stronger and stronger that I can trust the engine at this level.

Before the hub-DYNO, the engine was out of the car and measured in a "normal way". I don`t know what you call it in english, but the engine was not in the car, connected to water cooling, air, exhaust and ECU. The numbers were very similar to the numbers from the hub dyno. The difference was that we measured it only up to 1,4 bar as we at this time only had mapping up to this level.

I am going to the hub dyno again in some few weeks, and I can ask them to measure only RWHP as I understand this is the "real" and only measure that is trusted in the UK.

But didn't the car max out the one you took gubby on??

Ah sorry, I meant good dyno's that can cater for more than 530BHP :). Yes, we flat lined the dyno at 14psi between about 3100 - 5900 RPM LOL

I know - I recon I would have hit around 600BHP when mine was on the dyno based on the amount of tyre smoke that was in the workshop!!

Plastic tyre man :). I still have the vid :)

Regarding noise, do you know the limits?

If Silverstone is realistic, when do you think this could happen?

I'm waiting to see what they can do and will know at the weekend. Probably looking at 105db though 98db would give more options :)

Don't think weekends are possible so will most likey be an evening. i have asked for some ideas for June and July see what they've got.

Hi again Bobgenie;

Any news from you?

This is what I got from Goldtrack. I'd be up for a day open pitlane as we get more time. I would speak with one of the forum guys who normally organise these things but I think we could have a great time. Would not be only zeds but if we had a few 600 bhp plus cars would be interesting :)

If the chaps think they can make 98dB then an evening is the most cost effective way of doing it. If they think they’ll need 105db then a daytime event is better and I’d suggest the Arena GP one on June 7th.

Costings, assuming 10 or more booking would be:-

Evenings £129 each

Days

June 7th £379 each

July 19th £299 each

Rather than have you having to coordinate people I can do a booking code for the chaps to use that’ll enable them to make their own bookings at the discounted price.

those prices are silly, suggest you book through another company. We did an Open-pit lane (full-day) at silverstone for £130 in the autumn, and normal prices should still be sub £200 for full days.

Hmm.. our local karting track (adapted for car sprint days, still tiny) is 130 quid for 8 laps

I've never seen a trackday that cheap and I've done loads on bikes. I'm simply quoting goldtrack who have a very good reputation. And anyway, I think I get about 10 mpg from the red one, and I drive two zeds do you really think I particularly care about economy :) does anyone who drives a zed??

No, I don`t care and totally agree with you bobgenie.

Don`t let this discussion get into a sidetrack.

Let`s find and settle an appropriate date (preferably a day during the weekend for us from Scandinavia), accept the price and see how many who`d like to participate.:clap:

There were no dates there at weekends so I will contact Silverstone direct to find out who does them. I have quite a few bikes days there so should be OK.

I'm not having much luck with weekends at Silverstone. I like the idea of the June 7th which is a Monday and is the new Arena circuit so we'll get to run the same as the GP boys. Anyway, I'm thinking that I'll be doing this one and it would be cool if a few more guys can join me. I would also check with Dan to see if he would do a rolling road on the day too :)

let me know guys

  • 3 weeks later...

I have booked myself on a trackday at Silverstone for the 7th June. It's a Monday and it's the Arena Circuit which is perfect for our cars with longish straights and long sweeping bends. So, if like me you want to prove your car rather than just talk about horsepower on the forum here's your chance
