I've got a 1990 j-spec tt auto. Over the last few days the box started making a whinning rattly sound when running getting worse as you increased throttle. Last night as i set off for work it began loosing drive like slipping, after stopping at traffic lights the car wouldn't move at all in any gear at any revs. now after getting recovered the car runs fine and creeps forwards or backwards in drive and reverse with no revs but only for about 1 minute then all drive is lost, also happens straight away if i press the accelerator. if it isn't something cheap im considering breaking or selling as it is due too lack of money. Any help much appreciated.....

The fluid level is fine, so must be the end for the box...... and the car as i've had enough. How much do you reckon i'll get for scrap? lol.

Could be the torque converter. If you have the time and skills to do it yourself could be worth a go if you think its worth the ยฃ150ish quid?
