Hi there,

As the title says .........today I had the Zed up on a ramp for the first time since I bought it back in November.

1/ NSF tension rod bush is leaking oil - can I replace the bush or does a replacement rod have to be sourced?

2/ Auto box sump pan is leaking - will have to replace gasket and may as well do the filter and fluid change at the same time.

3/ Rust .............both rear outer wheelarches need replaced, OS outer and inner sills and NS inner sill are holed enough to fail the next MOT

Other than that - it doesn't look too bad :) although I'm sure that the cost incurred in replacing what will probably be inner and outer sills (both sides) and wheel arches will be frightening. :(

Any ideas of the cost of inner and outer sills and am I best buying Nissan or pattern parts.

Thanks in advance - Andy

I was looking at a pair of Whiteline tension rod bushes from Z Centre, can anybody recommend them over the standard Nissan bushes?

Sounds almost identical to how mine was, bit frustrating but I was kind of expecting it being a UK car. Mines at Zedworld at the moment getting it all sorted, I guess Zedworld would be quite a distance for you though.

look on ebay for panels, guy that supplied a group buy a while back sells from there. V good quality about £40ish pounds each i think

Distance isn't the problem - it's the £150 worth of fuel to get there and back that causes the problem

I'm in the motor trade anyway, I'll just have to do a bit phoning around for someone that can do a good job.

Did Zedworld give you an idea of costs to repair the corrosion?

Yeah, I've seen these - I think that I'd need a full set of six panels and more :(

Depends what your after with the tension rods. If you want to keep it standard you will need to buy the full rod, I dont think Nissan supply the bush seperately. There are after market bushes you can buy, but there have been issues with ones which dont allow enough movement causing the lower suspension arms to fracture. The other alternative (and best option imho) is to buy aftermarket rods that have rose joints fitted at the front.

Leaking sump pan, sorry havent had any dealings, but if its just the gasket it should'nt be too big a job.

Rusty sills, thats a different story altogether and has probably seen more Z's sent to the crusher than any other reason. How bad are they? you might get a better idea of the inner sill sections condition by removing the rear trim and front seatbelt assemblies. if the inner sections are away its a lot of work to do but far better to do it right than just slap patches over the outer sill to hide it..

Nissan quoted me a price for the bushes seperate , but i'd already got a cheaper price from MJP:D

So, given the amount of people on here breaking Zeds - surely it would make sense to buy a second-hand tension rod from someone.............recycling and all that. :)

That would seem to make sense, but given the age of these cars most still fitted with original bushes are likely to be shot!

You would be better to get this looked at first as it could be the deciding factor on whether or not you keep the car, Robert has first hand experience as he has just replaced all his on his own. I had mines replaced in the summer but had quite a bit of other stuff done at the same time so not sure how much you should expect to pay but it is a big job so will be quite costly.

Hi Andy,

Dan here, we spoke last week on the phone.

I can help with the tension rod bushes as I've got a load coming in from Energy Suspension (ie, uprated poly urethane). Furthermore, I can also recommend our Powertrix adjustable tension rods if you are running lowered suspension (would suggest you also opt for the adjustable upper camber arms at the same time for optimum adjustability).

HTH

Dan
