Since my engine and performance figures are pretty much stock (although new with little use), I've been using good quality 10/40 semi as per manufacturers recommendations. I'm doing a mild boost upgrade over the following months and am considering upgrading the fluid to Oilman's recommendation of the Silkolene pro.

Just wondering who is using this fluid and what engine modifications you have? If stock, interested to know of any changes in running, ie, smoother etc?

I used it once and my engine sounded a little tappety which coupled with the oil looking so thin put me off, as if your pouring water into the engine. I understand the ratings etc say its fine to use but I now stick with Morris 10W 50 competition.

I use it too. Zed is pretty much standard and I have not really noticed much difference. I use it for piece of mind really as it was recommended so highly.

I run silkolene 5-40w, and its running the usual exhaust/filter/chip/1.2boost tips. but because its used daily it never ever sounds tapety, not even during cold mornings.

Just sounds smooth throughout the rev range

yes i do :)

obviously not a tt but do have mods

tubular manifolds . full after market exhaust, chipped ecu, induction kit, lightweight flywheel. egr removal

car runs sweet.

Anyone else experienced this ?

I had the same issues with my previous zed when using the popular Castrol RS 10w-60 and I know others did too.

I have been using Castrol RS 10w-60 for the past few years (think it's now called Castrol Edge) and haven't had problems. Having said that, I do think sometimes it does sound tappety.

I have read on here of at least one other person saying the same, as we know the subject of oil is a touchy one, personally I found one I am happy with and stick with it, I am also dubious of a salesman pushing one particular type of oil and prefer to make my own judgement.

I use Castrol RS 10/60 and have no issues at all. Oil change due soon, thinking of Castrol Edge.

Running about 1 bar of boost.
