I'm in the process of breaking my zed and found this black box under the centre console next to the handbrake. I can't find any ref to it in the service manuals.

 

Does anybody know what it is? I don't want to just rip it out until I know what it does.

 

 

The blue arrow points to where the braided cable is going.

 

Since I've never stripped a car and i'm not a mechanic, there will no doubt be loads of these threads coming soon! :wack:

It looks like an arial booster looking at the location and the wires but god knows if that's right. I've never seen one of those before any of my 3 zeds! :D

I'd guess it's something to do with an alarm... next :D

Where do the wires lead down to and is there a power cable going into it ?. It could be a seatbelt tensioner device.

It looks like it's connected to the main harness, I'm assuming that it's getting power from that. I haven't tracked the braided hoses all the way yet.

Dunno but woul dbe interested to know as i have one as well.... lol......

Judging by the type of wires coming out of it I'd say it could be the cabling for the cat temp sensors.

Ah now there's an Idea. Cat sensors. Why else would you need braided hoses.

Yep, spot on. Its a standard part and is for the cat temp senders.

Is that an old Plumbers bag from like the 60s or something? LOL

deffo cat temp sensor box cos i ripped mine out when decatted ;)
