Just got a set of these to match my shiney new fog lamps. Am i right in guessing some Z's had side lights in the indicator units? As there are holes for 2 bulbs on each one.

I've often wondered this as ive seen quite a few with these extra lights in, I think there like the rear side markers on Jap specs, rather than side lights which are in the front fogs.

The Jap specs s1 (89 - 91/92) had the side lights in indicator housing as did UK spec and from Jap s2 (92 - onwards) side lights in the fog light housing...

Quiet an easy mod, find some one who is braking and ask them for the bulb holders and a few inches of wire.....

ALL JDM cars had side lights in the inner lenses.

 

So did UK specs, except UK specs did not have front fog lights. The corner indicators are blanks. The indicators are sighted in the inner lights and use a completely different unit to the US and JDM cars. JDM and US cars share the same fog light lens, but the base is different (which you can't see) which accepts a side light fitment (JDM)

 

Excluding 99-spec front bumper (which use the same fog light apperture only). There are a number of types of OEM fitment bumper indicators. UK had blank smoked corner markers. 2 types of Indicators for JDM models.

have those 1st JDM ones been detango'ed as mine are orange.

Yeah they have. It's quite easy to do. Later style ones with the running lights are a PITA to do as the inner section is smaller and you can't get access as well with long nose pliers and snips.

 

I have the newer style indicators now as the diffuser pattern is much nicer and more crisp. I just can't get the orange diffuser out as space inside is very limited.

 

I prefer these than the crystal corners which I don't find suit the pattern of the fog light lenses.
