Thought it may be interesting to see some photo's of real faults & damage that can occur to your zed rather than hypothetical conversations, also may be fun to have a guessing game, take a look at the following photo's, and see if you can guess what went wrong.

Have loads of these and hopefully will of interest for members to see what really transpires when these varied faults occur.

The background to this particular fault is as follows, a rebuilt engine from a small company with in house engineering cnc machining, heads and turbo rebuilding facility.

Car was collected from said builder and around 60 miles later the following was discovered after an engine noise was heard and seem to be getting worse, the noise was semi metallic with a scrapping noise in time with engine speed.

OR the timing belt snapped ?

Do the spark plugs move up and down like the valves?!

Phill82 I'd edit your post :D

The answer is no :)

I wasn't really being serious, just wondering how the timing belt snapping could cause it!

Could bend or snap a valve causing it to come in contact with the plug.

Come on Jeff, stop fixing the Zeds and have a tea break so you can tell us what the problem was :D

Jeff did it with a file just to catch jimmy out..

lol ;)

:rofl:I like that.

More clues, genuine T plate non turbo zed, back street garage had changed the head gasket and could not get it to start:confused:

Jeff TT

head gasket to thin

incorrect tightening

what about what tonyb said above head skimmed too much?

  • Author

Ok wrong path you taking there, the head gasket was changed in the car, the "garage" removed the head to do the work WITHOUT removing the crank pulley (clue) :x:

Timeing so far out, piston contacts a valve and pushes the valve into the plug. ?

i know what it is but im not going to tell !!!!!!!

JAMIETT

In that case will yer get hold of yer ole fella and tell him to get back here, I wanna know as others do, :hyper::hyper:

smithy

did they try and start it without the timing belt on?

no thats not right, lol erm give up

Edited by j1mmytt

This is really annoying me now!! if zogg is wrong then i would say a foreign object has hit the plug at an angle, but what object i dont know lol ......grrrrrrrr:D

Jeez will you stop been so flipping clever, sorry guys for you keeping in suspenders was too busy at work to post back and just got back home.

The upshot was the amount of damage caused by the pistons hitting the valves and bending one across the plugs ( more than one was damaged) a replacement engine was fitted

Want some more?

As for Jimmy Winning.

If you guess 100 times, one of them is bound to be right :D
