As far as i know Hawk's are imported mate and Danny DTA who sells a lot of brake pads, some imported and some not, from experience favours other brands...

If your on stock discs and calipers and the calipers have never been serviced that you know off, then tbh the pad choice for you isn't going to make such a significant difference. Can i therefore suggest the mintex 1144 or Porterfields if your completly stock, a middle of the road price wise pad.

Smithy

i have ferrodo 2500 pads and they squeal like a b**ch!!!

some say they dont, and some say they do. i have been advised to take 'em of and clean/abrade 'em then see how they are. performance wise, they are great.

if, after cleaning/abrading i still get a squeal, i will go for ebc red or green.

al.

Are standard front discs drilled and grooved ? The ones on my car are .

No mate, you've got aftermarket ones there. Could be summitt like EBC discs or DBA. My suggestion on pad choice for yer still stands though ;)

Hope that helps.

cheers

Hiya,

Just chiming in - sorry, hadn't seen this post before ...

As Smithy says, I sell quite a lot of brake pads. Mostly Ferodo but also quite a few Porterfields and Mintex pads.

Take a look at Smithy's Place for an idea on current pricing.

I'm out of stock on front Porterfields, new stock due in about 2 weeks but can get Mintex and Ferodo pads from UK stock.

If you require any further advise please feel free to contact me. Number listed below.

Regards,

Without a pic (or better yet, a receipt) it will be difficult to tell the make of the disc. However, an important fact would be to find out whether you're using stock calipers or aftermarket/upgraded calipers. If they are stock (ie, have NISSAN embossed on them), and they cover the disc right up to the hub, then at least you know you've got a stock-sized disc. That'll make choosing a pad easier as you won't have to worry about pad size, etc. If you have GT-R calipers then there should be a bracket attached to the back of them (effectively pushing the caliper outwards to accommodate a larger disc). I believe that these do not have the word NISSAN written on them as they are Brembo calipers.

Get a tape measure and see what the diameter of the disc is. 280mm and it'll be standard size, 324mm and it's GT-R size, any larger and you're looking at an aftermarket kit.

Hard to measure with the wheel on , but I`d say they are 280mm . if you look at the pics , bearing in mind that it`s only a 17" wheel . Bejaysus , I`ve never seen rust on them before !

Brian

Hi Brian,

Yes, from the pictures they look to be stock sized (ie 280mm). Don't worry about the rust - all brake discs get that when they've stood in humidity/rain for even a couple of hours! Comes right off when you've used the brake the first time. ;)

Not really a definitive answer but it'll be some form of oxidation due to exposure to moisture. Rust can take various forms and colours so "black" rust isn't that strange. Does it go away when you've used the brakes? If so then there's nothing to worry about as this is normal behaviour.

Not sure mate - might just be a different material that's used for the front discs ... If you're concerned I suggest you contact KSport and ask them.

Hi Brian,

Got your order (after some issues with Outlook - bloody technology) and I've e-mailed you back a quote. I don't stock copper grease but will get some for you from my local motor factors and pop it in the box with the pads.

Cheerio!
