Hiya

Want to look at some zeds in the coming weeks.

Just a few things I cant get my head around.

Is buying a fresh import a gamble more so than buying one thats been imported for a few years? I like the idea of a car residing in the uk for at least a few years and getting some service history under its belt. If I turn up at a dealer is it resonable to expect them to have done compression tests etc or no?

When refering to the 'fairlady' is that a spec level, like ford Ghia?

Is there anyone with conzult on a lappy who would be willing to go around the midlands, or in fact anywhere in the country, and look at a couple of cars. would pay for time and travelling costs of course.

Is a divorced downpipe a trade name or the equiv of a external wastegate?

great site, thanks for any help you can give me :)

Hi

Ill answer one of the questions for ya - the fairlady refers to an import model - not a spec.

Im sure someone more tehnical will answer the rest :)

Look no further lol I need to sell my baby :(

Divorced downpipe just means that the exhaust downpipe is separated to the turbo giving earlier and smoother spool up, my car has them fitted :)

If I remember correctly, if you get one straight from japan, you may need to do a couple of slight modifications, ie. gearbox oil cooler (not sure if that only applies to autos or not), rear fog light, convert speedo/odometer to MPH, and maybe a few other things, I'm sure someone on here can tell you soooo much more than I can tho :-)

yes you fefently need an uprated oil cooler for the auto box or it WILL go bang

Buying any car is a gamble. The problem with a fresh import is that most of them don’t come with service history or any receipts of the work that it has had done to it. Even buying a car that has been here for a while only has a limited service history. Mines a Jap import and has been in the country wince 1994, but although it was built in late ’89 it’s only got full service history etc since ’94. The advantage of a Jap model is that it’s likely to have less Rust on the underside due to the lack of salt used on the roads in Japan. It also comes with folding mirrors and hasn’t got the ugly headlamp washers. The down side is that the insurance can sometimes be a little more expensive and you have after market switches somewhere for the fog lamps which the car has to have when it arrives in the country to pass it’s tests.

Fairlady mean Jap import. It’s exactly the same spec as the UK version (performance wise) with very minimal differences light positioning of the seat belts, lap belts in the rear rather than 3 pointers, Speedo in LHM rather than MPH, boost read in a different unit etc. All things that can be easily converted to UK spec.

I have a conzult which is on a laptop PC, which you get free with my car when you buy it lol. No near the midlands so can’t help you there, sorry.

A divorced downpipe is not related to the wastegate. The wastegate controls how much boost the turbo’s get. The down pipes allow the flow of air out of the turbo’s.

You didn;t read the paragraph above did you ;) :D

I couldnt be bothered..... :D il read it now.

TBH i'd look at the cars on here, there are a few for sale at the moment. St's SMW would be my choice, the car is outstanding and for the price well, if your serious then you need look no further....

The up side from buying from a memeber is they wikll have the knowledge ofteh car and will have looked after it, the car history to an extent can be traced through using the serch function and you will know an enthusiast has looked after it, and not a chav who has thrashed it, Deals will not know too much about the car and will fob you off... a member on here wont.

Food for thought, dont buy an ebay car, they are more than likely owned buy a chav who wanted a high power kick has trashed it about, and is now looking toget rid as it's A. costing too much money B. has something wrong or going wrong with it and C. wants to make a quick buck.

Car for sale is your freind at this point, and ask all the questions you need, we're a friendly bunch :D lol

Cheerz

Neil

i have a jap import and just had a snooper fitted to read my mph, alot cheaper and easier than getting the clocks changed over.lol. And also gives the benefits of telling me when speed cameras are coming up:D! And........mines is also for sale.lol. Fancy a bmw 325 m sport:D, mmmmmmmmmmm:D:D!!

Just with resulting to chavs hear.............exactly how are you classing someone a chav.lol.

Im only 20years old, but i do not thrash the car about, its my baby just love knowing that its there, kind of sad but true.lol

Ugly Headlamp washers.. i feel abused :( my poor car.....

I'm sorry Murt, I didn't mean it in an offensive way, I hope your feelings or your cars feelings were not hurt too much :D

I just went out there and she ripped them off, she aint happy!

I bought my jap import off ebay 18 months ago, and still haven't got it on the road, he told me one of the oil seals on a turbo had gone, as it was smoking, easy fix he said, ha... took the engine out, recond the tubs, dropped it back in, same problem, turned out he had blown a hole in a piston, and completely knackered the bore, so a re-bore, 6 new pistons, a new exhaust, rebuilt all behind the dash as he had butchered it, changed all the pipes etc. and I still ain't got it on the road, I would if it weren't for that damn idle problem I just can't shift. Don't get me wrong, I love the car to bits, love working on it and have learnt soooooooooo much doing it, but that scenario isn't everybodies cup of tea...

The moral of this story, is, if possible, take someone who knows about a Zed with you to view it, or do plenty of research, or just by silver streaks, it's a beauty!!!

But, mine being a Jap import, hasn't got the seatbelts on the door, and hasn't got lap belts in the back... ?

I bought my Zed from a club member, it runs like a dream and I have had only the slightest thing go wrong with it - but I bought it knowing that that particular fault was there.

Using the previous owner's forum name, I was able to trace most of the history of the car since he bought it. Buy from a member, you'll not regret it. :D

wow been busy in here today, thanks for all the info guys!

I'm driving home tomorrow and am going to look at a few on the way back down. Have had a few offers and found what 'appear' to be good cars tho we'll see :)

I would buy the streak except stu refuses to sell it for two buttons and a blob of lint...meany

Think the door mounted belt were only on series 1.

I would seriously look at getting one thats all ready had all the niggles ironed out. One from the forum would be a good start, ok you might think the initial price is high, but buying a 1-2k from ebay will be trouble , you can easily spend another 2k at least sorting it out. It won't be worth what you put into in the current climate, see these cars as more of a hobby car that will soak up all your money.:D

Yep, the reason no one replied on that is because it can only be us spec if its left hand drive :)

Hi Ghodula, are you in a mega hurry? Mine might have to go, it depends on if i have a job or not at the end of the month. I got a import tt auto your welcome to come and have a look/go.

Dannyzx on here has conzult and hes a good fella, he put my motor on it and checked it out when i got it.

Before you head off around the country, have a look at the cars in the for sale section on here. Enthusiastic owners who loved their cars and have them in fantastic shape. SMW1, crotchrocket and others have really nice looking motors for sale. You'll pay a lot more than e-bay prices, but you will buy a genuine car from genuine owners who have spent a fortune getting them to their current state. Much, much cheaper in the long run.

Just my opinion.
