i;m my opinion - alot of agencies seem to be a waste of time...

once you register with them... do their silly tests... have a chat with them..

they never sem to find anything suitable, eventhough they promise they have loads of jobs in the feild you want...

that Crap they havent called you back....

wish u all the best of luck... i'm pretty much happy to accept anything to bring some income in.

Thanks bud, best of luck to you to

I know a few people that have been to Jobseekers and they never failed to find them a job. Maybe it was just good luck or maybe because they were all manual labour jobs it was easier to find.

I was in recruitment...

there are still alot of jobs out there, but employers are more picky because they know there are so many more ppl looking so they only take the best on, and you find that ppl are looking at the roles below what they were at thus making them more employable because they have the skills to do more than there job description and get paid less for doing it....

I've had 3 interviews in the last month, most recent was today for the London ambulance service, it was the aptitude test i think it went well, looking at formal interview next friday, all going well.

so keep looking guys things are out there just need to know where to look thats all.....

:D

I'm not sure what you all do but one idea may be to become a contractor rather than an employee? You can earn more, work the hours you want and charge what you want (obviously within market norm and reason!).

Plus if you do it through a PSC you'll only end up paying approx 20% tax and no NIC to boot!

I know in IT a lot of people do this as companies prefer paying that little more per hour than employing someone that won't be utilised all the time. Good for you too as you can select contract, etc...

Just an idea...

There's still tons of jobs open in the Merchant Navy. Cruise ships and passenger vessels are seriously understaffed and always looking for good engineers/electricians. Moneys good and the best bit is that you don't pay any income tax meaning you don't feel obliged to get furious at the government doing things like funding 15 years of ludicrous salaries and bonuses for bankers....

I'm currently working on a private yacht that is owned by a member of a middle eastern royal family and spends 10 months of the year in the south of France.

PS: The electrician route is the easiest way to go as you don't need any extra qualifications. Engineers need to do a 3 year course to get a qualification from the MCA but you can normally find company to sponsor you.
