i meant to post this up at the time but just wanted to say to all those into modifying your zeds be extra dilligent and thoughtful with the mods you do esp to brakes, wheels, suspension set up etc...a man was recently found guilty for carrying out mod's that sadly resulted in a fatal crash (killing his own kids)...the key issues in court were the work to the car which he had done himself...this work put the car out of spec and rendered it un-roadworthy he was prosecuted on that basis by the police/cps...he will be sentenced later

A father killed four of his children when he crashed into a river in a Land Rover he had made 'ill-judged' and incompetent' modifications to, a court has heard.

Nigel Gresham, 37, carried out a string of changes on his car for off-road driving but in so doing turned it into a death-trap unfit for public roads, a jury was told.

The alterations proved catastrophic when the 12-seater Land Rover 110 station wagon suddenly slewed off a narrow country lane and into a 15ft deep river during a family outing.......Timothy Spencer QC, prosecuting, said: 'Many of the modifications were ill-judged.'

He said the faults, combined with 'inexpert' repairs and ' limited' maintenance, meant the car was 'quite simply unroadworthy'.

Thats very said news :( maybe he should of got a specialist to look it over first.

The only mod i would do to my breaks would be to get drilled discs

Apparently he was also driving like a tit!!!

it was mentioned in court...but the factor to proceed / prosecute was on the mods he did

theres a huge problem with modifying 4x4 vehicles for offroad use, and has been for years. im highly surprised its not happened before now tbh. ive seen some dangerous ones done in my time. unless you know exactly what you are doing, then leave well alone. they just dont think of the consequences until its too late.

did it pass an MOT in that state? mix matching calipers sounds like a right bodge.

it passed a mot...that was his defence...not good enough though hence the outcome

thing is, i would never miss match brakes or anything else that could affect the way my car handles

Sounds to me like he was just a bit of a numpty who did'nt maintain his car very well! The media just twist stuff beyond recognition!!!

Very sad tho :(

a lift is a big problem to the way a car handles..ive a 2" lift on my range rover and the way it has alterd the cars feel on the road is amazing, the main problem is centre of gravity is totally changed and this combined with bigger wheels has the effect of making the car roll and lurch around and must be driven with respect on a twisty country road
