Been talking to the talk audio guys, and the install I was planning for the z wont work:(

Cant use all the subs together as they will sound wrong and all the stuff I have got is a load of rubbish. Not sure what to do next, should I just go a head with it anyway and the hell to what they say, just use some of it or sell the lot and hope I get enough money to buy some decent stuff. Or sell the lot and spend it on the Z? not sure any more any advice welcome.

Yeh. JBL's stuff is pretty good for the price, although personally I think you should reconsider your plans.

Firstly what are your aims....your never going to win any sound-off competitions with the Zed, the interior volume is too small and the gear your looking at is'nt high enough quality.

If your looking for good sound then 4x 12" subs and some 6x9's is not the way to go. Stick to 1x 12" or a pair of 10" Subs in the rear and some quality Components in the front. You will get all the Bass you will need with high quality mid and high range sound. 1x amp to power the subs and the headunit can power the components, or you can get a small amp to power them separately. It will sound a lot better than the setup your planning and it wont weigh a ton and fill up the entire car.

The 300zx is a high performance sports cars, loading it up with a van load of ICE defeats the whole point of the car, why would you want to make it slower and handle like a trolley.

Nothing wrong with a good ICE install, but stick to a tidy boot built using quality components.

Just IMO ofcourse.

Definitely use a separate amp (not the head unit) for the front components, makes a big difference. Dispite what they might boast, if you read the small print the real world RMS power output of most headunits is around 10 - 15w!

by the time I lose some weight off the car, i think i would be close to stock weight again

Not sure about that. That little list, combined with Boot build/Sub-boxes and enough dynamat stuff to stop every panel rattling is likely to weigh in at around 150kg +....and it wont even sound anywhere near as good as a simpler setup.

One pair of 6x9's creating all your high and mid-range tones, and 3 big subs for Bass, including a 15" just doesn't make sense, sorry,

6x9's are just what i've got at the mo, will be getting more components soon. If you look at a later thread I am hopefully selling all 6 of the subs I have and getting 4x12" gt4's

I've got 2 x 10" and 2 sets of 6" components and a set of 4x6 replacement in the rear 2 amps and a split charge system, tbh I think that's more than enough for a zed.. Each to their own but think yours might be a little over kill tbh..

right, where do we start. lol. but lets get one thing straight first about these ICE forums. unless you are spending huge amounts of cash on top of the range gear like alpine, audiobarn, phoenix gold, kappa ect, they will crib you on everything, which i cant stand, and probably over 95% of the members havent got a clue what they are talking about anyway. its not a case of the more you spend, the better it will sound. its how you put a system together. the list you have above is way OTT for a normal install. i used to have 2 shops which specialised in ICE & security, have done basic installs right up to kitting out competition cars. i have put at the side my opinions of the above. one thing people should remember is, speakers are only as good as the amp driving it. and as for jbl`s, the worse mistake they have made is putting small magnets on their subs, lets them down dramastically. im not sure what your intentions are for your install, but as legrath says, 2 x 12`s or 2 x 10`s should be quite ample with the room available.

I had a loudest.com amp and it sucked balls, got changed for a jbl which was sweeeet

u got a picture of the rear speakers mate?the ones in the boot?

depends if you want:

something that looks pretty , fills the boot, and produces sh1t loads of bass when you are stood outside the car with your mates admiring it;

or a good quality sound for you when you are driving it, loud enough to listen too on the motorway with the targas off

if the second i personnally would use the infinity 6x9 and the infinity subs, get rid of the rest, buy some infinity components and buy 1 or 2 decent amps to run it all (decent as in sound good, work well,ie alpine, kenwood, infinity ;not as in have a cool name and lots of go faster lights, )

then spend a lot of time thinking about where to put the speakers so they sound right to you in the driver seet, ie 6x9s in the boot you will loose a lot of the high frequencies compared to components in the doors, my infinity 6x9s have a top boost switch which from the driver seet makes them sound similar in frequency response to the components.

think about the box for the subs and the size it should be for the sound yu want. i only have 1 12" sub in mine and its plenty load enough (i personally think once the bodywork starts vibratin there is no point going louder) also what sort of sub sound do you want, i like a punchyer sound rather than a rumbly sound therefore personally i wouldnt go up to a 15" sub and tend to prefer the sound of my twin 8" sub in my second zed

Thanks people, nice to get some half decent answers about the stuff I have, I have been thinking about the weight and dont think I wanna lose the performance. I notice when there is another person in the car.

Will just put a couple of my 12"'s in not sure which ones yet though.

Will have to get the models up for you tomorrow.

If I were you I'd run 2 GOOD 10" subs off the pro plus amp, buy a set of decent component speakers for up front in the doors with GOOD crossovers coming direct from the head unit and be done with it.

Will sound far nicer and FAR louder than any of the rubbish you've listed so far.

My misses says I should delete the other forum too, they aint nice people like you lot:)

Well, I am going to doing a few ICE upgrades soon (I don't know much about ICE). I have already fitted Alpine direct replacement speakers all round and soundproofed the doors and rear quarters. I have run new cables to all speakers. I have a Pioneer 10" sub and Pioneer 2 channel amp to power it (which need to be installed). My headunit is an Alpine IVA-W200Ri.

What I need now is something to power the speakers. Something small (dimensionally) that I can instal behind the dashboard (out of sight).

I have found (what I think) is a decent amp (for my requirements) in a sale and it's Alpine. http://www.audio66.com/product.asp?id=5555&cat=6&man=1&main=1&userid=&firstsel=cat&variation=&gclid=CIfH4fr46JUCFSAtEAodtVCifQ I am hoping this would be sufficient to power 4 Alpine speakers to a reasonable volume with decent clarity.

Would be quite interested to know what others thought of that. As some may know, I don't want a 'mega' instal. Just a good quality sounding system and I'm hoping I'll get that with what I have and am going for.

Si, one of the keys with all installs is dont overcomplicate it!

Do you really need an amp? Does your head unit not run the speakers well enough on its own?

So many times I've seen people run amps to speakers for the sake of it and runin what would be a great setup by adding bits and bobs in everywhere for no reason.

The reason I want to run an amp to the speakers is because they only sound marginally better than the stock stuff I pulled out. I now have increased volume and no crackle, but they lack definition. If by doing what I have done, the system sounded like the one in my Leon, I'd be happy, but alas, it doesn't. Lacks bass and mid-range.

Shit spelling

An amp wont cure that, all it will do is increase the bad sound and make it worse. Look for a new head unit fella ;)

The sound isn't bad. Quality is reasonably, I just have little mid-range and bass definition. I have a top of the range Alpine headunit. If can't get decent sound from that, then I'll not bother with the ICE at all.
