If the timing was out could that be the cause of my missfiring at top end problem?

I dont understand timing at all, it goes right over my head

If your timing is "advanced" over stock it makes the car quicker at lower revs but then leans out at higher revs and can cause detonation.

If your timing is "retarded" from stock, lower down the revs the car is a wee bit slower, but higher up the rev range it has extra fuel for higher boost.

Certainly no harm in having yours checked to see what it is though :)

its annoying because i know how to use a timing light but i dont own one, and im not going to buy one just to check. most tools i own are because i needed them once

This problem at high revs is beyond annoying tho because sometimes it wont change gear for missfiring!

I have a strobe gun, the snap on kind, im like you, i buy crap for one time use. But i can never store them anywhere, im using my rs turbo are a storage unit, hehe
