With the pound down to 94p against that poverty making Euro I am resigned to staying in the UK as much as it hurts to even think that.

When the Euro was 1.5 to 1 that was cool, even 1.3 to 1 was OK but the pound lower than the Euro? What's that all about?

The Euro has halved the income of the Italians, ruined their take home pay, almost eliminated the value of their pensions and they hate it with a passion. I know coz I asked lot's of them when last in Florence and surrounding areas.

Now the invisible power brokers are trying to force us down that route as well.

Decimaliaztion halved the value of our take home pay very cunningly, and the Euro would go some ways to repeating that fiasco.

I think there are a few people who stand to make guzillions out of the so called 'parity' thing and it won't matter a jot to them if the rest of us creep into the 'pauperization zone'.

Anyone else doing hols in UK from now on?

Have to agree with you, I think the powers that be do not like their minions displaying too much wealth!

The amazing silence on the news over this is staggering. Our currency is wittering away (like the D.Mark did in the 1930's.....) and all we see is stupid Brits queuing up at 6a.m. for 'the sales'. If ever anything showed what a nation of divs we are this is it.

Still as long as the Stella's in the fridge, Corrie's on t'TV and X Factor rules then we don't have much to worry about in Brken Britain.

yep and a fat lot of good the vat cut did 2, really encouraged us to spend that bit extra before xmas ! Not!!!!!

it's going up to a min of 18% sooner rarther than later :( just hope the pound dosen't de-value too much further !

I'm still going to do my 'drives' in France, but had thought about driving to Munich in the summer to see my sister. But I'll think I'll fly now!

I've noticed flights to the US dropping quite quickly. I've managed to get a flight out to St.Louis in Missouri for a mere £387. So, with flight vouchers I got from a delayed flight earlier this year, that knocks that down to £220 and with an additional voucher, I've practically got free internal flights so I can go to SoCal and Branson Z fest. So, not looking too gloomy. Whilst the dollar has rissen against the pound, fuel prices have dropped by nearly three quarters. So, instead of paying $4.50 a gallon, I'll now be paying close to $1.50! So, it kinda works out in my favour almost!

Still, cost of living expensis will have risen, so I'll be paying a little more for fuel and accomodation, but generally, I think it might be cheaper for me this year for my yearly long-haul gettaway

Europe is a no-no TBH. I don't do package type holiday nightmare deals where you get everything all inclusive in a resort full of English people, so, doing stuff independantly, which I usually do) will of course cost quite a bit more.

I was supposed to be going to Lake Como in Italy in 2 days time, but both myself and my other half (sort of) have come down with terrible colds that we've cancelled.

That might be it for Europe for 2009!

Spelling = terrible. Just been bitten my a friggin' whippet whilst out jogging! No joke!!

Ah well it was nice to get the Zed to the Ring at least once before NuLabour and the faceless ones destroyed our economy.

Glad you voted them in now I hope?

Broon used to take all the credit for every financial condition of the UK when it was OK, as soon as it all went belly up, it suddenly became, a 'gobal problem' and not 'our fault'.

Funny that - take all credit and wash hands of all responsibility for destruction of UK economy.

Brown has modelled his running of the nations worth on the same basis as I cleared my garage recently.

I wanted to raise some cash so I rooted out a lot of original parts for my classic car. I sold them and raised the cash. Hence when I need more cash, I go to my garage and guess what? There's no more assets to sell to raise money.

That's exactly what NuLabourMarxism has done - sold off industry, manufacturing, gold, pensions, blah blah.........

Now the key difference between Broons Garage Sale Economics amd mine is this. I cannot turn to all my neighbours and say, 'I am wanting to tax you all on everything you earn and later everything you buy at 18% plus.'

That is the key difference and that is what will send millions into poverty from next year.

Some might say it's criminal, incompetent, stupid or sinister. It actually doesn't matter because your pound in your pocket will be worth probably less than 40p and I'm being generous.

i know what u mean Si iv'e recently been pricing my trip 2 Japan with some mates , (going in late 09), i was suprised at how much the flight had come down to below 450.00 now for a return !!! just gotta find a hotel a bit cheaper than £87.00 a night in Central Tokyo

Enjoy! Japan has always been on my hit-list of places to visit. I am also one of those very odd people who has an very desirable interest in visiting North Korea. I'm fascinated with the place. It would be an educational trip as opposed to a holiday (for obvious reasons).

Japan's economy is also going through the pan. If the £ stables off a little, then you might find prices seem a little easier on the wallet. The value of the Yen is dropping, not too sure how much against the pound as I don't look at historical date.

TBH, £87 a night in Tokyo isn't too bad.

The South African Rand is a good exchange agaisnt the pound, only trouble is you won't live long enough to spend either currency.......................

Don't worry - come Summer the Pound will have regained some of its strenght. The only reason it has weaken so much is due to the recession and the fact that the BOE have slashed your interest rates. The ECB has a much higher base interest rate but this is expected to be cut in Q1. If it is cut significantly (a sign the eurozones recession is deepening) then you will see the value of the Pound increase. Your weaken currency and low interest rates is very "valuable" to you now. Your mortgage repayments and bank borrowings have become cheaper. Your exports have become cheaper and imports competing with your own suppliers are becoming more expensive. Use the savings on your mortgage repayments to fund your trips to Europe in the Zed :)

Of course it will also strenghten when your economy comes out of recession and the BOE raises interest rate, thereby making it an ideal, stable currency into which foreign investors can hold their cash.

The Vat reduction and weakening value of the pound has really benefitted the shop owners, businesses etc in the North of Ireland. The carparks are full of southern reg cars. Asda in Enniskillen took in £60k in the first hour of trading one morning, majority of which was from Southern shoppers.

Believe me, the currency is and will increase trade. Give you an example, I'm interested in buying a second hand steel frame building of roughly 6000sqft. Six months ago one would have cost me in Euro (from the UK - £17000 plus delivery) €24,500 which made it too expensive. Today in euro it will cost me €18,500 which means I will buy it from the UK rather than purchasing it here or in Europe. As a result when trade increases, your unemployment will fall and foreign receipts will flow through your economy, benefitting everybody even if only through the maintenance of public services.

There are a fair few bankers out there making a bit of dough on the pounds downturn, but the politicians are laughing their *****cks off as it gives them an excuse to join the euro and I bet they won't lift a finger to save the pound!!!!

If I had a mortgage it might have been useful - savers and tax payers are bailing out the feckless, impulsive and reckless spenders..........

The are 4 'next steps' according to the plan by the unseen ones.

1. A single currency - global.

2. A World Government

3. ID cards for all.

4. a One World Church.

Bit by bit it's all heading that way.
