wha could be the cause of poor boost? my boost gauge goes to 7 max its a jap import auto 1989 with a gauge with 7- and 7+ only and only seems to go over to right to about the 6ish mark..

any ideas should i get an aftermarket boost gauge?

Featured Replies

Yes, a leaking balance bar would be a boost/vacumn leak...but the stock gauge is in mmhg x 100 , and going to 6 is about 12psi (stock is 9.5psi)

but saying that, they are famously innaccurate.

An after-market boost gauge would be a good idea, just so you know what's happening under the bonnet, as Legrath said, the stock gauge is pretty inaccurate...

My stock gauge only twitches a little at full beans, i've got a lovely bonny boost gauge, but misplaced it, and can't find it :-( I too am having boost issues, so need to see a true boost reading myself!........

Nice one Znut, i think you might have saved many people a few quid with that link...... :-) :-) :-)

what about all the vacuum hoses etc if any of these are old and have poor seals could this cause probs too ...well i know they should be tight but some of mine seem a little baggy with age .. what are all the pipes on each side of the car going to like a small pump looking thing with wires going in it and lots of tubes and t pieces ???

What, next to the 9 pence beans? :-) Ya can't knock em, I bought a laptop from Aldi for a grand (???) it was the dog's doo dahs :-)

maybe it is just me and i just expected car to be much faster...maybe im thinking it has problems and maybe 6 on the gauge is 12 psi and it is ok what ever i will change pipes and o rings anyway and put a gauge on

Yeah they would cause problems, any pipe with a bad seal potentially could cause your car to run like a bag of, well, poop.... Not too sure which bit ya mean there, can ya be more specific? (although someone else with sooooooo much more knowledge than me will come along in about 30 seconds and tell you exactly what it is) :-)
