Sorry folks, but im fuming for some reason got to let off steam.

Will try and break it down a bit.

Get my insurance renewal through from Norwich Union. last year it was £359 for full comp protected no claims (9 years+) all mods declared. This year come mid jan they want £620.

Ive no claims or convictions, same as ive been before and have been insured with NU for past 11 years. Never claimed or any issues.

1. Ring up NU to ask why? to get told that its because my car is very powerfull and is now group 19, i challenge this and state why the increase ive been with you for ages?

I'll chat to my manager, hold on.

Whilst waiting ive completed the form on line with the exact details on my renewal with gocompare.com

2. Weve managed to bring it down by £32, is that ok? Oh yes, but why have esure just quoted me £219 for the exact amount of cover.

she then tells me that esure will hide stuff and that NU are the main business in the market, a few discussions and im getting nowhere, call is finished.

3. I go online to Nu Direct, input the exact details on my renewal form and it comes up £460. a saving of £160 with the same details with my same ins company.

I double check with esure and i will be getting more cover than i have at the mo with NU. and saving £401.

Why should i be screwed over because my zed is now group 19, im a good boy and dont get in trouble, apart from the odd issue on a disused airfield.

Rant over.

Stu

they do it on the off chance that you wont challenge it, which im sure some wont, good on ya for kicking off, take your business else where, if you getting the same cover (if not more) then whats there to lose.

Insurance companies are tw@ts no doubt about it! You soon know that when they have to pay out for something - slimey b4stards!

But hey great friggin news you got it down by £400 - feckin good job mate!

Can the ins group go up?

Pete, they told me it was group 18 last year, which i thought it was, but have confirmed that my zed is now a 19, not because of any reason, just the industry as a whole.

I just got my insurance renewal quote...

From 1385 for 10 months, (1 years no claims)

To...

998 Quid for 10 months (now 2 years no claims)

Hi Stu, had the same thing with NU, phoned them up and they would not drop the price, so I went on to there web site as a new customer and got it cheaper, just goes to show it don't pay to be loyal to these company's, they are only looking for new business.

Paul

i always renew as a new customer, i never just let it roll on so to speak, they stick it up you

i got shafted by adrian flux after they sent me a letter saying garuenteed to beat any other quote ive had

they didnt, it was a complete lie and i can never trust a company that lies

Im with adrian flux....about 3 years ago there quote was about 800 quid....went on line for other quotes and i think bells insurance quoted 400 quid......rang flux told them id got a cheaper quote, they then offered me a quote of 380 quid..........they all try to rip you off.....best to shop around....

I had a similar issue with tesco...went from a group 14 car to a group 12...they stated my insurance cost wasn't going to change as the insurance grouping was "to close"... Esure.... lost 4 months insurance cover but gained 300 in saving...600 to 300 pound... Insurance companies generally make it up as they go along.

The moral of this story is ALWAYS SHOP AROUND :nono: its amazing how much you save by spending time looking for a cheaper quote . I always play one against another more often than not it actually works !!!!!!!! :nana2:

Never renew and never 'auto-renew'!!!! There is no such thing as a loyal customer anymore adn they expect you to be too lazy to shop around. I invariably pay in one lump if i can and then state i don't want to renew when the time comes. In some cases you can go back to the same insurers website and beat thier own quotes, and the saving you make is for the pain you have to go through....They all do it in the hope you'll just accept the situation and the direct debit will go through!!

I've got Admiral (Elephant) trying to charge me £20.50 cancellation at the moment and they've been sending me e-mails every 3 days....Mainly because the credit card i used to pay in full and up front last year is no longer an active account. I thought that when the policy lapsed the policy lapsed...... It was too expensive so i went elsewhere at renewal time and did not tell them that i didn't want to auto renew. They reckon that they continued cover beyond the policy i signed up to and paid for last year and so are entitled to the charge for the period i was insured???..What?? anyway I've asked them to send me a copy of the policy and the terms and conditions last week as i got fed up of the e-mails (as i've destroyed all the originals and any new documents they sent me ;-) ) and it all seems to have gone quiet now....They're like vultures though the lot of them!!! Like someone else said, a necessary evil....

Slightly O/T but this is interesting.. who are you insured with?

I did a quick confused.com search to see if getting a Zed would be viable at all (gives you a general idea of what ure going to have to pay) and it came back with £1050 TPFT or £1300 FC thats being 22 with 4 yrs NCB.. doesnt seem to be asgood value as youve got going there..

your age is the main factor Jake and UK V's JDM spec....Mine is a UK car and i'm 34. My policy was around £380 fully comp with declared mods after a re-build last year... before that about £280!....It'll get cheaper when your 25/26+, but most will be high even on a UK spec car at your age i'm afraid!

Yeh, tell me about it! I initially searched for an import and no-one would even provide me with a quote! So the £1050/£1300 was based on a UK car.. I reckon with abit of shopping aroud and haggling (I do work in sales after all) I should be able to find a quote for £1100 FC.. we'll see when the time comes!

Update.

If you speak to the right people ie managers, argue that you want to keep the business with them after 12 no problems years,

Just renewed my policy and its still with Norwich Union.

£267. Full comp proteced.

Saving myself £353.

If your willing to push them its well worth it.

Stu:hyper::hyper:

I dont understand why i have to pay a premium every year? Its like owning somthing and having to pay for it each year. Once i buy a TV or a car its my possesion, once ive purchased insurance cover it should be until i use it?

An absolute joke of all the thousands of pounds ive spent and to be honest, its done nothing for me apart from make my phone bill more expensive when having to call them. I hate insurance companies with a passion, much like banks they serve no real purpose and are a parasite on society!
