hey guys just wanted to pick your brains , i got the engine in zed plumbed it in and it runs as sweet as a nut......however i took it for a spin the other day and when i booted it up a hill it hit bout 5500rpm then backfired with some impressive pops but then appeared to cut out and lose power. it came back to life at about 3000 and off again till it hit 5500 then same thing. a friend suggested a fuel issue maybe filter does that sound about right?

it wasnt on the limiter when it popped though was only in second its an auto so at first i though box issues but not convinced think it could be fuel. anyone come across this themselves?

Don't get confused between the Rev Limiter and the Speed Limiter.

Rev Limiter is the same as any other car, but the speed limiter is set around 112mph, it's a Japanese thing, that can easily be removed with some aftermarket devices, or have your ECU socketed and a chip put in, a fairly cheap job, and as stated above a few peeps here do it, just place a request thread up to see who is still offering it.

Ofcourse it could be something else, depending on your speed when it did it if you were nowhere near 112 mph! The popping could be unburnt fuel within the exhuast igniting in the Cat, this could be caursed by you PTU breaking down, thus stopping the spark on one or more cylinders. It could also be a dodgy Coil-Pack doing the same thing.

Personally I'd opt for a unburnt fuel problem, as the speed limiter should perform smoothly, and not give a popping sound.

My old s13 did this, turned out to be fuel cut..till i got it chipped then blew it up shortly after

That's encouraging :)

im almost certain its a spark issue as my car does exactly same thing and i have a coilpack knackered with the other 5 with suspect connections if i rev it it pops now and then .and cat heat light comes on meanig fuel blowing up in exaust not good as the dust from the cat can fubar the turbo seals locate which pot is not sparking swap coil packs around to confirm broken coil pack or connection ..

remember this is only a suggestion dont go mad like i did pulling of all tghe connectors and end up with a bag of coilpack connection plugs in bits....lol

ive also been told it could be a plug more likly to be some crasppy connector though..

But what gap did you set them at. Standard 1.1mm or reduced to 0.8mm ????
