hello everyone new guy just joined, i dont have a z at the minute but ive always liked them think they look stunning and am hoping to buy one just before summer next year, i currently drive an e36 2 door bmw coupe which is as lovely but not as fast.

Anyway i was looking at this 300zx manual, non turbo with 240bhp, but was thinking the twin turbo one is 300bhp, so the turbo's only add 60bhp from standard ? is this right.

but the real question is are the non turbos any good, fast ? can they be made even quicker with a few mods ?.

it seems that twin turbo manuals are at least £4000 to £10,000 and the auto ones are dirt cheap, but i was thinking i could get a non turbo manual for a good price and with 240bhp as standard its a good base to play with ie chip, exhaust, induction etc.

your advice please.

thanks.

Id go twin turbo, but im being biust, but I suppose their will be some people that would disagree, if you go NA then get a manual, I dont think their is much differance in fuel consumpsion either, spend a bit of money on a tt then you are talking a lot lot more power and acceleration, I think theres quite a margin between a NA and a tt stock anyway, if you get a NA, you will always be saying to yourself, I wonder what a tt goes like, Id test drive both before making a decision.

Welcome by the way.

Non-Turbo

230 bhp with 200 Ib/ft Torque

0-60 is 7 secs

Top speed is approx 150mph (with limiter removed)

With Induction kit, decat, exhaust, Headers and a chip your looking at 240-245hp

Twin Turbo

280-300 bhp with 280 Ib/ft Torque

0-60 is 5.5 secs

Top speed is approx 175 mph (with limiter removed)

With Induction kit, Exhaust, Chip, 1bar boost your looking at 350-380hp

Test drive several of each before making up your decision. They each have their own benefits. You cant beat the TT for outright performance and tunablity, and a TT Manual will always be my favourite but NA's are still great fun to drive and Personally I would take a NA Manual over a TT auto.

You also have the choice of bodies.

LWB (4 seater), SWB (2 seater), Targa / slicktop / Convertable

All UK models are LWB Twin Turbo.

Imports were available as TT or NA , LWB(4seater) or SWB(2seater). Nearly all are Targa roof but the SWB's were also available as Slicktop(Metal roof) or Convertible(folding hood).

I wouldn't say that...its just not my preference.

The figures I posted above are for the TT and NA Manual.

TT auto is 263 bhp and 269 ft lbs torque

NA auto is same as NA Manual.

I am a recent new owner of a TT auto and I am loving it (but I am a lazy drive too - point and click and off you go). :nana2:

automatics and non turbos are crap :p

na its personal preference i guess.

Twin Turbo manual only for me sorry :)

id imagine the NA to be too lazy

I've had 2 TT auto's and feckin love 'em point and go as guynkate says. Great in traffic and motorways you can always enjoy 'em. Maybe if you're into raggin' the arse off your car may not be for you. NA's don't know not driven one but you won't have to worry about turbo's knackering up at least.

:slap: no one thats ever seen my NA would describe it as crap and having owned numerous twin turbos and NAs I know which one I prefer.:D

mmmm, broken down once in 6 years due to a dead alternator, thats pretty good for a 19 year old car

Japanese market Z32 NA's originally had 230bhp as standard with 200ftlbs of torque. The US cars had 222bhp/198ftlbs... and you often see this quoted, or sometimes 225bhp, which was the power output of the Z31 turbo model!

Most NAs for sale in this Country tend to be Japanse spec cars.I've owned a couple of NA mauals and they've both been great cars!

Cheerz,

Jez.

I have a N/A manual, obv its never going to have the buzz of a TT but to be fair its been a very reliable car and never missed a beat.

Depends what you want out of a car. I'd love a tuned NA for the track. But for fast road driving and high performance, I went for the TT. Manual of course.

I drove an NA cabrio over in the US and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've driven quite a few NAs and they are so easy to drive and control.

Horses for courses and all that. Both have their merits and both have their shortfalls. Depends what you're looking for in a car.

I personally wouldn't have automatics in either format though.
