Couple of questions.

Drove my Zed for the first time since my test drive today. Was taking the car for its MOT and it was freezing outside , anyway the car seemed really sluggish. As it was freezing outside I was very reluctant to put my foot down, didn't want to be wheel spinning! only took it up to a little over 2000rpm but it did seem quite hesitant and slow on picking up.

The bloke at the garage said that autoboxes can be sluggish in cold weather until they have warmed up, as i've never had an auto before I don't know if this is true or not. Should I be worrying about this or is it normal?

Could only drive the car to the MOT station and back as it isn't taxed yet :)

Also, I was looking around the front of my engine and spotted this little alloy radiator with a nismo sticker on it so my questions are.

1. Is this the intercooler? if not what is it?

2. As its a Nismo part, is this a stock item?

Go easy on me this is my first turbo (and RWD, AUTO) car! lol

cheers

dave

Slow and sluggish sounds more like engine performance rather than gearbox problems.Unfortunately you will need to do a little more test driving ( once legal to do so) to see what the exact nature of the problem is.

how big is the thing with nismo on it? any pics?

it could be an intercooler but its more likely an oil cooler

Jeff - The engine should be good as its a recon with a months warranty left on it. It starts first time (even this morning!) The oil pressure is good the turbos don't smoke and it sailed through a recent compression test. The throttle response is also good. As you say though I won't be able to drive it properly until it's legal (next week, hopefully)

Pete - no pics yet i'm afraid. From memory it's around 10inches long and 6 deep but I could be well out on that!

It's sitting behind the induction cone

never heard of a gearbox needing to warm up before, not on a road car anyway, albeit the engine does is noisy and groggy when first started

bump- Anybody have any clues on the gearbox/engine problem?

As you are a newbie, I will tell that JeffTT is the owner of Zedworld in Tamworth and along with his son JamieTT, are two of the most experienced Zed mechanics in the UK having run the business for over 10 years (I think thats about right), it would pay you to visit their website http://www.zedworld.co.uk

to have a look round, or even better still if you live in the area, pop in, they are always very welcoming.

I took mine out the other night when it was bloody freezing and it was going like a rocket, cold air should make it run better. If you didnt go over 2000rpm then the turbos wont be doing much if anything, surely its gunna be sluggish. Take it for a proper spin and see how it goes.

This would be your oil cooler, you may also have asmaller one there for the gear box.

As you can seen in the picture below, the oil cooler is in the middle and intercoolers are either side mounted (in the picture) or fornt mounted but then it would be much much bigger.

Nismo is not a stick item it's an upgrade, however it could just be a stock item with a sticker on it. Would need a picture to be able to tell.

Thanks for all the help guys, cars getting MOT work done on it at a local garage so I can't get any pictures of the oil cooler yet.

Old Zed - Yes, I've spent many hours looking through ZedWorlds website (bought some parts for the MOT work as well) I'm already considering getting them to convert her to manual!

I should get her back next week, then I'll give her a good run and see what happens.

Are Zedworld open Saturdays?

When mine was an Auto it was very unenthusiastic about moving around when it was cold... i put this down to there being more oil in the system which remained colder for longer because of its large oil cooler... Obviously gearbox oil is going to work better when its warm... or so i figured? Thats why the cars wont go into overdrive or lockup until they are up to temperature, i figured this was a sensor for the oil temperature in the gearbox? Or is it based on engine coolant temperature? Anyone know... just for my own personal interest?

Must admit that my autobox seems a bit draggy until up to temp... but then it has been really cold and I have been taking it a little bit easier :D

But after 5 mins just want to keep it in power mode switched on :nana2:
