I have a UK tt Z and I havnt started it up for nearly a week now, it has the correct amount of antifreeze in it and starts and runs perfectly all the time.

However, I still dont plan on using it while this cold spell is here and who knows how long it is going to last. So, what am I best doing?

Leaving it alone?

Or

Starting it up and letting it reach temperature? If I do am I best waiting for the weather to thaw out or am I best starting it asap?

Its the belts I am mainly concerned about, dont want the cold to crack them...

what do you guys recommend?

Cheers, Dan

Ive been thinking the same but im more worried about breaking the turbos,i had the oil and filters done last week but im still concerned i think im gona get a remote start as i have just been jumping in it and driving to work

as im sure one or two people on here will say (you know who you are ;) ) its a bad idea to start the zed up and leave it to idle by itself, even during warm weather, as the engine is only protected when the oil has heated and thinned and the sooner that occurs the better. gentle driving as soon as possible until temp up and oil pressure down is the best you can do.

if you have another way of getting about and you have a warm garage with enough space to fit a Z-sized object then there's your answer! otherwise take care of it, make sure the correct ratio of antifreeze is in, along with good oil, and it should be ok.

im currently using mine as a daily driver, the only problem Im having is seeing out the bloody windows!

with regards to turbos, i'd guess that as long as you only come onto boost after the oil pressure has dropped and the water temp is normal then it should be ok. i drive mine for nearly 15 mins before i come to a national speed limit and build it up to good revs and boost and she's fine

As many people have said on here before mate, one of the worst things you can do, is start her up, and leave her to warm up just idling... Long story short, oil is thicker, and not much pressure at idle, so it doesn't reach the dry and very crucial parts at the top of the engine. Best thing is really to just get in and drive, but obviously don't give it the beans till warmed up..... I would think your belts should be ok, they surely are designed to withstand cold weather, providing they are already in good nick....

thank god i asked that question!ive been letting it warm up at idle quite a bit when ive had the time to do it so that can stop before somthing brakes!!thanks awfully

yep i was doing the same letting it tick over but now i just jump in and drive to work but i am going to get a little work car as i only travel 5 miles to wrk and 5 miles back and that carnt be good for the engine eaither

but what i do is keep it around 2000 rpm and when i get into fifth i go to about 55 untill she is warm

If your zed is still using the wastegate solenoids it should only allow partial boost until the ecu sees that the engine is up to temp.
