I am now half way through my d.i.y. 60k service and am at the point of refitting the cam & crank seals. The cam seals were no problem, they were reasonably easy to fit and position, the problem is with the crank seal.

Now I had no problem getting it over the 'step' on the crankshaft as I used the thin plastic strip technique, the problem I have is the positioning of the seal. The camshaft seals fit so that the face of them is flush with the surround, but on the crankshaft the seal seams to have gone into the recess about 1-1.5mm. Can anyone tell me if that is right or not? The seal is sitting straight, but I am not sure if its gone in too far. I don't want to carry on reassembling if I need to remove the seal and refit it again?

Anyone?

That is correct.

There should be 2 drain holes down the bottom that are open when oil seal is fitted correctly :)

Cheers for that, didn't notice the drain holes but will have a proper look tonight.
