car idles like a bag of shite and is SLOOOW in general

it idles at around 1100 rpm and hesitates when you accelerate and is shite slow and a mate who drove it said it was misfiring?!?!? if i plugged a datscan or a cunzult thing in would it tell me whats wrong?
