an old aquaintance has offered me his m reg 300zx non turbo for £1500.

Its a dark green targa top with 90 oddk miles on it and mot till next June

It appeals to me slightly due to the price and I have an urgent need for a car that will fit my 3 yr old daughter in the back and my 6 yr old son in the front.

I've had GTR33's, Supra TT,s and numerous 200sx'x ( was actually going to get another) but have since been a bit shorter of cash so I now have a mk1 mx5!!

It'll obviosuly be smoother and quicker than the mx5 but I was looking forward to getting a car with some sppeed in it again. do the non turbo cars match up well with the likes of 200sx's or do they need the turbos to feel quick

what is the fuel economy like on the non turbos and are there any big reliability issues with them?

cheers for any answers

Hi buddy..

If it is a manual, it sounds like a bargain, and will be quick enough for you. If it is a n/a auto, which I suspect it is at that price.. Again, a good price, but may not appeal to you in the performance department.

Best thing to do is have a test drive in it.. That will make your mind up in minutes.

All the best with it.

the n/a has a standard bhp of around 223 (obviously might have lost a few over the years)

the n/a is generally known to be more reliable (but to me it all depends on servicing)

petrol consumption ur typically looking at 17-18 around town and u might reach 30 if ur lucky!! on long motorway drives etc

(u may get a few posts saying just get a tt but hey it's ur choice!)

ps i have a 91 n/a

hth:)

cheers for the replies. I,m going to have a drive this weekend.

I'm just curious as I had planned to get another s14a as I love those cars but then this guy I know texted me about this car of his. I'm a compulsive car buyer and my weaknesses came to the fore and started me thinking about the Zed!! lol

I know a TT would be quicker I had a Supra TT up until September 07 but both turbos went on that and I had all kinds of bother so I'm not getting another twin turbo motor unless its another GTR skyline but my budget won't stretch to that till I've got my jobs that need doing in the house done

It is an auto which isn't ideal. My MX5 is really slow so mega speed isn't the only thing I'm after at the moment

An NA Zed is comparable to a stock S14a in performance (I used to have an NA Manual and a friend had a '99 s14a). Although turbos always make a car "feel" quicker and are a lot more tuneable ofcourse.

Auto NA's are noticeably slower than Manual NA's though.

I guess you really just need to drive it yourself to see what you think.

cant imagine a NA 300zx comparing to a Turbo S14.

would probably be ok for you, but depends what you what the car for?

if you just after a cruiser, yea its fine.

but if your used to GTRs, S14s, i think the TT would be the way to go.

i love the Silvia, will probably swap the Z for one middle of next year :x:

(not tha dont like the Z, i have the TT, its fast :)

Mine's an NA, i've owned both and the NA is the better car in my opinion. Sounds better (no turbos blocking the sound), pulls better and although it's not a million miles off in economy it can be reasonable (i've had 36mpg at 65mph all the way to cornwall)

How does an NA 300zx 'PULL' better than a TT?

The TT is radically faster than the NA and pulls much harder........in my experience anyway.

A standard S14A is 197bhp and about 7.5sec to 60. So if you were happy with those figures then an auto NA Z in good condition will keep you happy as it'll be similar.

the only plus of the NA,

is that theres no lag, its instand power.

but theres not much of it, especially for a big fat arse car

Twin Turbo, boost up, MUCH FASTER, MUCH POWERFULLER,

i love turbo sound, not into rasppy NA

I found the TT to drive like a giant elastic band, no bottom end grunt and plenty top. The na is more useful for instant drive.

I like the rasp tbh, especially in tunnels it sounds immense, alot louder too :D

I guess i'm just an NA man, hence building an NA 6.3 Chevy V8 zed at the moment  lol

the n/a has a standard bhp of around 223 (obviously might have lost a few over the years)

THe JDM cars, which are what you generally find in the UK, were 230bhp as standard when new!

Cheerz,

Jez.

I drove it yesterday. lovely car, looks well, tidy bar drivers seat and good price but I was disappointed when I floored it. You did all warn me!!! I'm going to take it out on my own today and have another think but probably not for me..

mines a 96 NA manual and i love it its fast enough for me gets the young un in the back and with the custom exhaust sounds awsome it turns more heads than Kelly Brooke in a swimsuit

I have a N/A but regret not getting a TT now however have too much invested in it to change.
