1999 Midnight Purple NA
I have been thinking about this quite a bit recently, and last night I decided to put my Z up for sale Ebay Link With all the work I've done it'd be nice if she went to a club member (or a new member at least) who will appreciate that [so I'll probably be a bit more accepting of offers through here than I might be to ebay randoms ;)] But please, no stupid offers... If she doesn't sell for a price that reflects the amount of time and work I have done and the £3k of parts I've put in, then I'll keep her. There's a long post here of the work I've done over the past year (and there are some other bits that didn't even make the list)

Project Purple
Its taken almost a year (all but 6 weeks) to go from this to this... Pictures alone don't do the change justice, it is a different car now.

Project Purple
Shiny parts waiting to be fitted Fronts all fitted some under sealing whilst its all accessible I'm not sure if this is a pass or a fail, I can't fit a shoe in under the arch but it does still sort of wedge in place?? Managed to get out today and get some better pictures of the new height

Project Purple
It's been a while since I updated this, and now the weather has been better I've been busy, so here goes. Had a few starting issues over winter which turned out just to be a dodgy earth lead, but in the process of finding it I stripped, cleaned, greased and rebuilt the starter, put on a new battery and then replaced the whole earth lead. Unsurprisingly she now starts better than ever before. Replaced a faulty o2 sensor. Changed the headlamp wiring so now the HIDs stay on when you're using high beam. And made myself a set of shifter bushes to replace the crappy worn plastic ones in the short shifter. Finally got round to making a loom up for the neutral and reverse switches on the gearbox, and at the same time converted the center lights to do reverse and fog. (Phone camera really does not do white balance well, the reverse lights are not that yellow) and everything together Add to that some general servicing tasks, including new oils everywhere and that already sounds like a sizeable update. But no, there's more. I'll have a whole post on new coilovers and replacement brakes soon, but for now I'll just leave this final image here...

My Hermes - useless tossers
It was delivered on time, but It wasn't signed for by me. It was left outside my door, underneath a mop bucket to waterproof it! Luckily it was still there and dry when I got home. I've had hermes "lose" a pair of brake calipers before, A 10Kg package that was tracked into their sorting system and then apparently never emerged from it. Suffice to say I dont really use them anymore either. However, that's not to say they are any better or worse than any others. I live at the very end of a cul de sac and my "front" door is actually at the back of the house, so it's pretty quiet, Doesn't matter who its sent with they all leave stuff in my bins, or recycling boxes, even the postman leaves stuff wedged between the bin and the fence all the time. I've come home to pairs of tyres just sat outside my door, and the wheels currently on my Z were left in a stack and "hidden" behind wheelie bins, the guy had even gone to a neighbours and pinched a third bin to try and hide them behind...

Waterless Coolant
IMO (I can't probably stress that "opinion" part enough, I don't have any proof), its not a great idea. I had a look at the specs a few years ago and it seemed like it was basically just 100% neat antifreeze sold at a serious profit. I do also specifically remember that whichever brand I was looking at had a significantly lower heat capacity & transfer rate than water (i.e it was less effective as a coolant). This seems to me like a bad idea, making your coolant less effective at taking heat away from your engine, which is its one job. I'm sure it does fix some problems people have, but (again IMO) it has potential to cause or hide other issues.

Identify the Part time.
Yes, this is what it looks like, I hadn't considered anything like that. Does that mean my car had factory remote locking once then??? :confused1:

Identify the Part time.
I have one of these in my '99. No idea what it is so I'd like to know too. I opened it, it has some sort of flat, concentric metallic discs inside, but I've never seen one like it before so I put it back and moved on.

Z resurrection and new alloy offset advice needed
http://www.willtheyfit.com/ This site is really good for comparing wheel and tyre sizes. Adding a spacer is the same as reducing your wheel offset (i.e. an ET+40 wheel with a 20mm spacer fits in the same place as having a ET +20 wheel with no spacer)

Conzult Free O2 sensor readings
It looks like the free version of Nissan Datascan I has dual O2 sensor readings, I'll give that a try.
-
Conzult Free O2 sensor readings
No useful settings in the freeware conzult This are the readings I'm getting, but it makes no sense to me with one bar and no reference/explanation [video=youtube_share;VP2X5ulHnxE]

Conzult Free O2 sensor readings
Yeah, I've seen a few screenshots of the full version with two bars, but i've not found anything specific on the free one. It was a couple of months ago I plugged it in, but I'm fairly sure I looked through all the settings and didn't see anything.

Conzult Free O2 sensor readings
Can anyone confirm the way that free conzult displays O2 sensor readings? I've downloaded the free version and I'm not sure my o2's are working properly, but the display only gives one reading (Image below as an example, not my actual car) Is this a combined voltage between the two? averaged? does the free version only read one sensor???? Does anyone know for sure what this bar actually displays?

Vee Eight
If I dare ask a question... Are you not doing anything with tapering yours or doing better bellmouths because of space? manufacturing? both? other reasons?

I think you need to be more creative with your stack shapes!!! I'll just leave this here as an example :scared:

pics of the rear arch repair panels being welded in please
The very thin cutting discs are pretty good, but not great for corners. Used them for some parts and an old school nibbler for the more intricate parts.

I mean, I have gaffa tape and my mate has two of these spare... I just dont get where the exhaust goes in on these turbos... :whistling:

Project Purple
Yep, paints happening soon, then I need to refresh some of the undersealing. That'll probably be it for this year, then hopefully I can get it turbo'd early next year.

pics of the rear arch repair panels being welded in please
Its welded all the way around, but it was done in small sections to keep the heat down and not distort. I'd rather have used a panel setter, but unfortunatly there wasnt enough gap between the inner skin to get it in. The damaged section on mine was just about small enough to keep the original step and weld in below that, the panel I ordered didnt seem to have as well defined a step, so we did what we could to keep that part of the original panel.
