  1. Hi, Tried to PM you but apparently you can't receive PMs or emails. Are we still on for that exhaust system as discussed on the 300zx forums? I believe you said £40 which is fine as long as your system is structurally sound (i.e. has less rust than my existing one). Cheers, Ian A.

Most Zeds posting on here from the South appear to be around the Southampton / Bournemouth area. How about the pub we first met at, near the end of the M27? We can still do regular (ish) meets in other parts of the South. Ian A.

Hi guys, Haven't done anything Zed related for a while (apart from washing it and driving it). I keep forgetting to look on this forum. Gaz, is it worth organising a regular meeting point at the same place at the same time each month? For example, another club I belong to always meet on the 1st Sunday of the month in the same pub. Sounds boring but you still get to do other meets as well and at least everyone knows where and when to turn up. Just an idea, what do people think? Ian A.
  4. Well, it looks like they may be technically correct! From earlier post: "No rear fog lamp shall be fitted to any vehicle so that it can be illuminated by the application of any braking system on the vehicle" I've found the relay David and unhooked the brake feed. Took about 20 seconds! I suspect it may take about 20 seconds to accidentally reconnect it again ;) The MOT place were unbelievable finicky, they failed it because the windscreen wipers left a little water on the screen. A good clean and it's fine! What's really annoying is that they are Skyline (and Jap car) import specialists so I took it there specifically to get a slightly more lenient interpretation of the rules! All done now, except the lateral adjustment on the headlight doesn't work on either side (suspect those crappy plastic cogs) and the steering rack gaiter is definitely split near the end. Oh well, it could have been emmissions I guess! In for a retest on Monday. Cheers all, Ian A.
  5. Hi all, The zed has just failed it's MOT on a number of items including headlight aim (hope the adjusters aren't broken) and steering rack gaitor. The most worrying one however is the fog light. Our car works where the 4 brake lights and side lights work as normal but when the fog light switch is operated, the inner two brake lights are forced on. I believe this is the standard relay installation. The tester failed it because the fog lights were not independant. According to Google, the regulations appear to state that the fog light must not be "adversely affected by the operation of any other lamp". Is the MOT tester wrong or is the relay mod not acceptable? I'll disconnect the inner two brake lights leaving them for fog light only function for the time being. Ian A.
  6. I was watching the Zed using Datascan the other day and the auxiliary engine fan didn't cut until 93 degrees (and I checked, it did work, air con on). I would let mine get to 100-105 without worrying. Ian A.
  7. Hi all, I hooked up the datascan to our N/A Zed the other day to reset the ECU (pick up was crap due to a previous hole in the exhaust, now fixed). Whilst watching the pretty gauges, I noticed the O2 sensor gauge was a bit inactive. I added in the other side and the "O2 Sensor Right Hand" flicks back and forth as you would expect. However the "O2 Sensor" (presumably left hand) seems to get stuck. Occasionally it flickers into life but it never gets as far round and often sits on 0 or 1. Also the "A/F" register at the bottom shows "Lean" instead of alternating between Lean and Rich. Is this likely to be a failed lambda sensor or possibly a wiring problem? Any way of checking the lambda sensors? Which side is "Right Hand" (i.e. looking from the front towards the rear or from the driver's seat)? Could this have been caused by me resetting the ECU and clearing the learning paramters? Cheers, Ian A.
  8. I'm up for this. Have they decided when yet?
  9. I received mine a few weeks ago. I was very impressed by the content. Well worth the wait. Thanks committee people! Ian A.

I've been to Eastleigh loads of times. The best competition is the IronMan Challenge, 30 minutes of individual racing. Endurance team event is good and tactics really take effect (must have x number of driver changes). Personally, I prefer the track at Salisbury as I find the bridge at Eastleigh penalises those of us with a little extra weight. However it's much slippier at Eastleigh so there are more spins and opportunitites for big oversteer action. I would REALLY like to go ad play with the twin engined karts on the outdoor track at Thruxton. Reported to be a bit like indoor karting except these ones go to 11! 60mph and they often wet part of the track for some entertaining drift action. Done indoor karting recently, definitely up for outdoor karting though. Ian A.
  11. Has anyone questioned just why the Zed has such miserable fuel economy? I get 22-30mpg out of my tuned 5 litre V8. I was shocked to see the 3 litre V6 (N/A on our car) use fuel quicker! I guess it's not exactly a light car but even so, one would expect all those electronics and variable cam timing to give some sort of economy benefits.
  12. It's a light? Do they all light up? I thought that was just a mod.

I might be there. I'm karting nr. Salisbury on Sunday evening but supposed to be giving a couple of people a lift from Bournemouth. Will see if I can change the arrangements. Ian A.

We have a black Zed with identical black and gold Gumball stickers (our are on the C pillar / boot)!
  16. On my datascan, the Lean/Rich O2 sensor is just stuck at one end of the dial or the other (usually rich) until the engine is warm. Once the engine has come out of cold start mode, the closed loop mode seems to take over and the needle zooms from one side to the other as you would expect. Are you checking it when fully warmed up? Ian A.

Yep, annoyed to miss it myself. Still, there's always next time. PS. What's with the black Zed and Gold Gumball stickers? Have you been copying us or do we just both have impeccible taste? :D Ian A.
  19. Hot is for boxer engines (911, Scooby) IIRC. Not sure why they are different. Cold for everything else (and without the engine having been started, otherwise half the cold oil sits up in the cam gallery). Ian A.
  20. Been a while since I bought mine. You need to buy it with some hardware (suggest a remote and a TV tuner). Not cheap but much cheaper than Sky+ Try a Google search. Ian A.
  21. Buy Windows XP Media Centre Edition with the remote control. You can use the Xbox 360 as a fully functioning extender (stream pictures, TV, movies, music, etc.) Worth it's weight in gold! Ian A.

I've been looking on the South East forum. A pox on whoever decided we don't need a South Central region! It's unlikely I'll be able to make it unfortunately. It's a shame as the new hole in our exhaust makes it sound much louder! Have fun anyway. Ian A.
  23. Sounds like the symptoms we had when the alternator failed. Warning lights came on, car stopped. The AA man showed it was reading 9V from the alternator but the charge warning light was still turning off (seperate circuit from the alternator). Ian A.
