  1. I have been looking around at 300s for a while now with a view to buying one in the near future. If possible I would prefer a UK car however all of the ones I have seen advertised, without exception, are imports. How easy is it to find a UK car? or is it better to buy a cheaper lower milage jap import? Cheers :)
  2. Nice looking car. What colour are you going to have it painted?
  3. I thought everyone knew that red cars go faster.
  4. A FWD car can have as much power as you want. The only limitation is how far you can tune the engine. However beyond a certain point it will become undrivable due to torque steer and lack of traction. The only way the Alfa 147 manages is with traction control which is one pretty much all the time when you put the power down. Oh and Autodelta have tuned a 147 GTA to about 350bhp.
  5. How true. I may have made 60K on my house but in order to move into a bigger house I now need to find 100k more than I would have before. I would much rather have made 5k on my house and paid a lot less to trade up.
  6. David, It looks like a nice car for the money. Not totally decided just yet and it will be a few months before I have the cash anyway (or at least the money to afford the credit!)
  7. Wow, you guys can get nasty when you want. I bet the guy that started this thread won't show his face for a while. As for 400bhp Novas, what a waste of time. There is no way a Nova could find anywhere near enough traction to use that amount of power. Chav Power did a group test on a load of tuned Novas about 12 years ago and the fastest ones to 60 were N/A cars since the ones running 2.0 turbo lumps couldn't get off the line without serious ammounts of wheel spin.
  8. Has everyone seen this or are you all for the new road tolls!
  9. Excellent link. I've made about 60K in four years which aint bad. There's no such thing as privacy any more though.
  10. they did a race on top gear and the 300zx was clearly faster than the 350z.
  11. Well you lot certainly aren't a fan of 1.6 Peugots are you. The 106 GTI is actually a very good car. It may only have a 1.6 but it makes 120bhp and in a car that weights under a ton that aint bad. OK so it's never going to be as fast as a 300 in a straight line, but on a tight winding B road a well driven 106 will easilly keep up :D It's all relative, after all given the choice of a Micra or a 106 I know which one i'd choose. I do agree though, idiots in hot hatches are a real pain in the arse. Best not to get involved. If they want to kill themselves let them.
  12. Link to petition I hope this link works. Not sure whether this has been seen on this forum before or whether it will do any good.
  13. TBH the idea of a N/A car is becomming more appealing in terms of less to go wrong and lower running costs.
  14. Chewie, are the N/A cars much slower? Also what mods are you refering too? One of the things that put me off N/A is that it is much easier to get more power out of a Turbo.
  15. What's the V8 engine from?
  16. I have no experience of zx's but generally white smoke on start up and during the warm up period is normal. However if it persists once the engine is up to temperature it can indicate a problem like a blown head gasket. Keep an eye on your coolant level. If it is going down then you have got a problem.
  17. Monaghanroyal, I understand your point and I would not be put off by an exhaust/airfilter upgrade. The thing is I have never driven a car as powerful as a 300zx TT and I would rather drive a near as standard one to start with before going down the route of finding more power. The 97 NA car mentioned looks good. Any thoughts on why it didn't get any interest on Ebay?
  18. The R version sounds nice. Are there any importers in my area that come recomended?
  19. FunkySi Nice motor. What colour is that? It looks white with a metallic tinge If I can get a good one for 5K then i will have a bit of change for that 'Rainy day' when the turbos go. I would idealy like as late a car as possible, 93 or a 94 would be ideal. I believe they made them up to 99 in Japan but I've never seen one later than 94 for sale.
  20. Thanks for the quick responses guys. I have been looking around for an unmodifed one but they seem a little thin on the ground. Idealy it will be a standard manual twin turbo targa top. How much should I pay for a good nick one with low miles? I could go up to around 10K although considering the poor mpg about £6-7K wouild be better.
  21. Hello all, Newibe needing advice, I have liked the 300zx for years and now finally (or at least in a couple of months time) I may be in the position to buy one. However before I take the plunge I just want to make sure that i'm not going to end up regretting it. basically I need to get an idea of how much these cars cost to run. I am aware that I would be unlikely to get much more than 20mpg out of it but how much on average does it cost to keep one serviced and maintained. I currently have a BMW328 and I put aside £100 a month which covers tax test tyres and servicing for the year. Is a 300ZX likley to cost much more than this? Also I live in the North east of England, does anyone know of any decent sepciallist in the area for servicing and pre purchase inspection? My local Nissan dealer is Reg Vardy in Middlesbrough and I wouldn't trust them to change a light bulb never mind look after a car. Finally (sorry for all the questions), where is the best place to buy a decent one from? Most of the ones listed on Ebay or in Autotrader look a bit tatty. Is it worth going to one of these companies that imports them direct or should I buy privately? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
