The other option is do what my car's previous, previous owner did which is be a cheapskate, weld a metal sheet into place then fill and paint over the top and it's crap. I'm now looking at the prospect of having to have a new tailgate fitted and sprayed with that plastic trim bit fitted as there's no way i can get the metal out etc without alot of work.

Becoming very difficult to get hold of the original shagpile mats but they fit perfectly and look great
