Replacing VIN plates - anyone done this?
It all sounds pretty straightforward to me. Personally I would also make sure to picture the original plate on the vehicle with some kind of time/ date evidence and then do the same as soon as the new plate is fitted. Just keep the old plate away somewhare safe too then if anyone was to question the new plate in future you have the evidence to hand. I know Si is not planning on selling, I am only making a suggestion. I guess the next step is to see if a company can be found that can do the stamping of the characters in the correct position and copy the original type and positioning as accurately as possible. Anyone with a tool can stamp/ press something but it needs doing correctly if you are going to go to the trouble of keeping it as original as possible. To be honest I dont think the picture of the original looked that bad but I also know the feeling when you feel something is not quite as you would like it. I hope you find what you need now, it will no doubt help a lot of others out in the future.

Well now someone has driven into the Z on my driveway!!!
Get some compliant signs for your CCTV setup also, they dont have to be big. ebay sell them this will make sure you are compliant if anything gets accused or if you need to submit evidence you video in a court. That way the scumbag cant slither out of anyhting. I know all this will be frustrating for you but be strong. You are better then they are. In most cases these kind of people do get what is coming to them, its just not usually where you see them most often (outside their house). From what you say the fact that he has to act like that just shows you that he is a pathetic and a weak person in our society.

Top Gear2018
I thought it has had a decent start, funnily enough I also caught by chance the extra gear show (called something like that) that went into more detail about the show and the cars, it was interestig to hear more about the track conditions, McLaren's etc. Cant be too bad to have more car shows on TV. Having some competition should keep everyone on their toes. Personally I did like it when car shows actually compared cars rather than just create sensation but I like it all the same.

New Road Tax rules arriving this April..........sweet.
A lot of people look at a car as a status symbol and it seems to me that too many people are going beyond their means to own the latest tub. Such people must place a high value on the perceived status or value of the car gives them beyond the financial reality. It's their choice at the end of the day. That new car buzz soon wears off though and they are back into the cycle again. I don't have a Z right now either but if I wanted to spend more of my money on cars then I would be buying a Z and keeping my daily driver which serves me just fine and is all paid for. I appreciate the Z for what it is, its not a status symbol its a passion :winkiss:

Tesla in space
Hydrogen works but the problem is the conflict of interest that exists to make the step change as companies have so much invested in the existing fossil fuel and to be fair electricity grid infrastructure. This is one reason why hydrogen is always 10 years away from being mainstream and has been for the last 20 years. Things will have to change in the future though but from how it looks to me the banks, financiers, oil companies and big business will extract every ounce of profit they can from the continued use of fossil fuels until they make the changes that they could do today. They will then sell to us the story of how great they are and how greatful we should be! Tesla is just one company in the mix, they are groundbreaking but they are not really helping the planet. When climate change really kicks in to overdrive over the next few decades you will hear the outrage from the masses about why did we not do more earlier. Well we did not because we are basically selfish, we will get what we deserve, which might not taste so sweet. Let people prey it wont make any difference. There are companies out there that are making superb advances but the rate at which their growth is accelerated is still too slow to meet the needs. I feel the writing is on the wall but we all dont want face upto the facts. That rocket launch the other day was actually a failure but is being spun as a success. They will get there in the end but at what cost.

The Grumpy Old Men Thread
1. People with something clearly missing in their life who love their jobs so much that they feel the need to race into work each morning with no consideration for other road users, freely cuting up any other road user to get 1 car ahead of the next person doing the same thing as they are who can commonly be seen transporting their careless asses in A3's, Leon's and A Class Cars. (Warning: Tossers do also use other types of vehicles and not all owners or drivers of the previously said vehicles are tossers) 2. People who drive along holding their phones, doing their makeup, reading a book, working on a laptop, writing etc. 3. Parents who dont control their kids in cars leaving them to play freely inbetween the driver and passenger seats. 4. A repeat from previously but I really hate drivers who are left turning off a road into a side street who almost STOP before turning around every corner that is clear and safe to go a reasonable speed around safely.

Car park space bandits !!
I had this the other week with a van in IKEA. I parked well away from anywhere on a quieter midweek day. I come back and the van was surrounded whilst the rest of the car park has plenty of free space. I could hardly get in the drivers door let alone load up. Grrrr.

Fluke or Skill?
If you have not seen this piece of news yet then. A Canadian Sniper has recently broken the record for a confirmed long range kill. In the field at 3540metres or around 2.2 Miles away. More detailed view here: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/06/22/canadian_sniper_3450m_shot_iraq/ Was it a fluke? In my view - no way, he will have had a customised weapon and I bet the armourer will know exactly who made that shot, lots of factors involved, sure he could have missed but he made it. I'm not a fan of wars but this is impressive and instances like this just show what can be achieved with a combination of skill and great technology. Here is a guy that takes his job seriously, I hope that if his name comes out that all the media attention will not impact on him negatively. It's not a computer game.

Community CCTV
Hi I have experience of using cameras and upgrading systems over many years now and have them installed on my property (I am not a CCTV business, not trying to sell anything) . I have also submitted evidence to the police twice successfully one leading to a prosecution about incidents including theft from my property and also a burgalar breaking in to my elderly neighbours home. In short thieves these days will just cover up and not take much notice of a camera if they are going after home invasion to get your keys/ car. It is unlikely an opportunist thief will do this they will move on to an easier target because by the time they see any opportunity tey may have been caught on camera. I believe having floodlights that turn on when someone enters your property is still a far better deterrent. What cameras are good for is establishing the timeframe for events, in the csase of my neighbour they were elderly and believed the time of their problem was actually nearly 1 hour different to when it actually took place. Overall I recommend really high quality cameras that will be able to pickup a license plate and features at a reasonable distance, most will not. I get the mickey taken out of me a lot by colleagues but I currently have a speed dome fitted with auto tracking and zoom so if someone enters my border and then leaves it follows them and zooms in, especially good for those chancers that come in a vehicle and park it down the street to avoid detection. Sure it picks up the postman but where I am generally whoever is coming on my property they will be for a reason and its pretty quiet. I have spoken to all my neighbours who are fine with it, I think thats an important point too, if people understand that whilst a portion of the coverage will be outside of your property that it will not be getting recorded or viewed unless a trigger event takes place from my property. I have signs up that are clear and compliant so all should be fine. If anything for the future I would have it so people cant tell there are cameras there so the offenders dont cover up. With a good system you can save yourself no end of trouble, I have even argued the toss successfully with delivery companies trying to make out that their drivers came and there was nobody in when I have proof that nobody came. I no longer have property overseas but if I did I would also use a system to remotely monitor and be able to respond to callers for sure, inexpensive these days and worth the piece of mind. Also think of when you have work done on your property, tradesmen that may want to try cutting corners may think twice knowing that ther work and behaviour on your land at least on the outside of the property can be reviewed. Overally I have heard some really bad tales recently about home invasion which is on the rise and the only solution I would have for that is get a big dog and a gate on your stairs (not common in the UK bt they work) to give you time to react if someone is intent in breaking in and getting to you to steal and use violence. I live in a quite low crime area thankfully but crime still happens and these organisaed criminals move around to find easy targets. Sadly having a nice car on the drive or spotted in the garage attracts attention.

Rust inside the rear arch & brake pipes.
Good work so far and I could never even begin to attempt such a task so it would be costing me a lot. Given the nature of owning old cars which may attract the rust I would be looking at the costs of heating my garage. I know its not suitable for everyone but for some it may be a smart investment that will protect their pride and joy and work out cheaper than the bills that will eventually come.

Bye bye EU
Hi guys, some people I have seen commenting on social media need to calm down a little today. You would think that the world was coming to an end! I work closely with EU institutions from the UK base. It is in nobodies interest for the EU or UK to fall down, what we are seeing right now is the greedy traders speculating to leverage gains. The clear message coming out is business as usual. There will be a considered negotiation before UK makes a step. I am not liking the gloating by some of the out buys and girls or the accusations of the in crowd that everyone voting out was either small minded or even racist. My job rests directly on some of what will come to its in my interest to be in the picture. I do hope that this vote gets the country thinking seriously about what we want as a future and that we can unite to make our way in the world no matter what our backgrounds may be. I will be looking to see what opportunities this change brings. People automatically resist change its natural, it will be happening though so what small part we can play as individuals. To me there is a massive disconnect between our so called leaders and us. Either way I would still like to get back into a Z in the time to come. Don't let the press whip you up, Peace!

PowerZed forged engine rebuild
Good to see the 300Zx community has lost none of its spark. I post here very rarely but have seen the same arguments arise over the years. Common causes to these flame wars seem to be around different and often unrealistic expectations, owners cutting corners, poor communication by traders and owners. Also owners wanting to get things done on the cheap or being in a rush for big power. All I can say is that I have learned the hard way. Many years ago I was warned off from JeffTT's business when I knew a lot less about these cars, that was my mistake listening to a minority! It cost me in the end. Generally I will say that traders that specialise in Z's on here know that its their reputation at risk so want to do a good job but need to be paid the right price to do a proper job with these cars. Cutting corners will only end up in tears. It is even more complicated in the case of who is responsible for what when you have engines being built and then cars sent to a tuner. The engine builder may make other recommendations that are not taken onboard by the owner. Everyone would take a belt and braces approach with the benefit of hindsight but plenty of people cut corners and then look to blame someone else. Generally if a honest business makes a mistake they put their hands up and make good even at their own cost. People understand that in the end business returns and it will pay off. Mistakes can happen that's life. Its unfortunate when issues don't get addressed but its not always the traders fault. This is peoples bread and butter, their livelihood, remember that when posting negatives. The traders will be all too aware of it I assure you. As for the thankfully few con merchants that pop up every few years "supposed experts" the word soon gets round if they are any good or not. Personally I would not take the risk anymore with a Z and only go to guys known in the community. I am not interested in specifics of different disputes etc that is no help. You have some great cars, look after them. I might be on the market for another soon.. :)

Massive spec Red 300zx TT
Yes it was MAC1's car, oh well its a shame to never find out what it could do, so much bespoke work went into that and a lot must have been learnt along the way. I was not really interested in the numbers just what it could do on the strip or what it was like on a track. A great car.

Massive spec Red 300zx TT
Hi I rarely come onto the forum these days but am interested as to one of the clubs top people ever finished that massive high power 300zx build. There was only one I can recall and others that have been on here will surely remember it. It was the topic of who has the most powerful Z cars many times. I don't think it was finished to the owners satisfaction a couple of years ago. Just interested in where that pretty amazing car got to and what kind of spec it ended up at? Can anyone point me in the right direction I'm not too familiar with the forum these days. Great to see plenty of Z enthusiasm still remains though.

What is it with a lot of Z owners these days
I believe its the twinZdesign one! Type 2 rear bumper with integrated diffuser. Looks great from the photos and video I have seen on a white Z but never seen one in the flesh.

What is it with a lot of Z owners these days
I understand its a matter of taste. Maybe part of my annoyance I have to say it is also where I live. In and around Birmingham there are still quite a few "poor" Z cars (some really nice ones too I may add). There are a few that I have also seen being ragged around less desirable areas, sad as you just know they will be in the scrap yard soon as the owners will not look after them, something will go. Their so called mechanic mate wont be able to fix it or they just wont pay the going rate for a decent fix and the car is soon on a sorn after sitting outside in the street for a bit and then before you know it another Z off to the scrap yard. There are good and bad sides to this tale ie more spare parts and less chavved up Z's on the road sure. Edit: The only real big look change mod that I must say I have really liked in the past was a time when a guy in Mexico or somewhere like that fabricated a new rear bumper that never got exported outside of his close contacts as I believe a previous front bumper he had done was "copied". Anyone have a pic of that white SWB Z with that very good looking rear bumper made by the guy in South America? If someone can post a pic or link up to it then tell me what do you think? I say big thumbs up and that's really not a stock look! :)

What is it with a lot of Z owners these days
Well it looks to me like anyone with a well loved original Z or with "tasteful" modifications will have to sigh again as like me you may be thinking maybe it's just a sign of the times or as I often think. What is it with a lot of Z owners these days? I seem to see more: Interiors ruined with PVC film crap. tasteless bloody stickers relating to manufacturers of performance parts that the cars have never even seen a sniff of. Day glow accents Vent shapes stuck on for no practical reason to wings and bonnets Bloody Led under car lights or worse in car/ headlight strips from eBay that are poorly fitted. massive base boom box things thrown into the boot any old way. OTT tints. massive stripes banged on like a terradactly has just dropped one as it flew over the car. My favourite being downgrading to some cheap effort 4 hole ferrari knock off rear lights. Don't get me started on stance, poorly selected wheel size and space etc. Yes maybe I am going a bit OTT and it's everyone's choice sure. Yes the Z is a lot of fun for not a lot of cash but it does annoy me somewhat that it seems to be ever attracting increasing numbers of upgraders from the Punto and Saxo evolution. Surely I am not alone in this opinion. Surely for prospective buyers too a heads up that with a little research they will see that a highly modified Z can look stock but so much better and that less can look a whole lot more. There are no end of members and ex members cars pictures on here that look far better than some trash look at me upgrades. People look at a well looked after smart stock looking Z and think class. They look at a tarted up old tired example and just think Shed! Less is often more and even a clean detailed stock Z maybe only with a nice set of alloys can look much better than a body kitted "custom" Z. Moan over. I know nothing will change but unless someone raises a point to discuss then it never will right. What additions do you most hate to see on a Z? Apart from the few cock drivers out there that would tattoo nutter to their foreheads because they can!

18's or 19's update...
If its not in the test then it is not a failure but the other point is that if a car is setup illegally and the garage/ tester has knowledge of this then should they not remind the customer about this (even if the customer knows) so that it has clearly been stated to the customer to avoid any negative comaback as 99% of the time if someone will get pulled up for driving a car like that they will say. "My garage said it was ok so I continued to drive like that" this would not be fair on the garage or its employees. Same goes for illegal number plates another commom one that occurs and is often overlooked. Any garage with a half decent reputation would take interest in the customers and theircars and mention something they know to be illegal. Either way the customer will value this they may not change anything but will leave feeling the garage is really looking out for them and is interested in them and their car so.... repeat business.

Had 4 wheel Alignment done....Still pulls left!
I can vouch for wheels in motion totally excellent, enough said.
