Cost in preparing Zed
Yeah that's worth thinking about - depends on how confident you are with sandpaper and primer! Depending on how thorough you want the respray to be there's lots you can do: - Take out as much interior as possible and remove door cars and mask up the access panels - Remove the bonnet lining - Remove the washer jets - Remove the lights and mask the wiring the gaps - Find a company that can remove the windows for cheap Of course it all depends on what degree you want to take it to, whether you want to spray under the bonnet etc, also doing as much sanding as possible will save you loads :)

Cost in preparing Zed
It's the usual how long is a piece of string thing really, from my experience I'd say for just painting it works out at about £100 a panel. What I would say is that anything you can do yourself will save serious money. if you can find a body shop that would be up for just spraying (I.e no sanding or prep) that can pretty much halve your costs :)

Painting with roller??
Looks alright from a distance, but within a few months i think you'd find the paint peeling from the edges, it seems these guys are wet and drying the top coat until it evens out - not a great way to deal with paint, it's all in the prep. If you get that right the results will be a lot more rewarding :) Cheeky photo excuse of my old project: rattle canned the primer on my old car but spent ages getting it all smooth: Then spray boothed the top coat: (ignore the black lights..) From what I saw on that rolling sight it lacked serious photos close up to the paint, i'd be surprised (although I've been wrong before!) if it didn't look a bit brush stroked or have an orange peel texture

Thanks lads :) Having said that on rooting through the service history it's had a replacement engine + turbos in 04/05 so a bit of cheeky naughty with the tuning might have to happe:p depending on insurance -.-

I has Zed!
Bought Dave's Zed the other day, would've posted sooner but I have been making the very most of the sun :D I'm not sure how much Dave wrote about it (Her!) but it's a UK TT manual J reg with a few goodies. I've got no immediate plans, but going to look into tidying her up, Dave told me about a few things that I'll probably try to fix: Centre Prop bearing could do with a change Targas leak gearbox crunches when driving hard 3/4 (He told me you could get a gearbox oil that helped this, anyone know what it is?) Aircon disconnected (will probably leave this) Drivers seat a tad worn and loose connection on electrics. Paint could do with some love All in all not too shabby! I might embark on some bodywork stuff - I spent most of my summer smoothing and respraying a 306 (which was written off by a drunk driver...): So I'll probably look to tidy her up a bit when I've got some money. Shed load of receipts and stuff but I'm pretty nervous about tuning as replacing the turbos would ruin me haha, but maybe i'll look in to that at some point, too. I live in South Bucks but study in Portsmouth so If anything is going on in these areas let me know! :) Time to get subbed up!

It's Up for £2490 so hopefully so room to negotiate there. Ah brilliant that's cleared that up, it's a little bit off the -7 but nothing huge. In the buyers guide on here it says avoid early Z's as they could have compression issues, this one is a '90, should I be concerne about that? There is an aftermarket steering wheel so that might explain the HICAS light. Also, I'm 6ft 6 so it's a pretty tight squeeze! Is there a difference in the size of a 4 seater? This one is a 2

Had a look at one today, The boost gauge went from -7 to +7 and idled slightly off -7, I haven't read about the gauge that has that range, is there a difference between that and -14 and +14? It was a 1990 (g reg) auto TT Hicas light was on, I guess this means it was broken? Oil pressure gauge on idle was just off 0 also Bodywork seemed straight, leathers were in a sorry state. The car is in slough, anyone nearby? Thanks!

Buying time is near!
Hey guys, for those who didn't see my newbie thread I'm looking at getting a Zed :) I've read just about every piece of buying information I can find so I've got an idea on what to look for when viewing one. What I was wondering is if any of you more experienced lads had any little nuggets of gold which i could get my teeth in to?! The model im looking for is a manual TT with a budget around 3k :) Also, I'm based in South bucks (Beaconsfield), is there anybody around me who'd be up for looking at a few with me if/when i find one nearby? Thanks!

Hi!
Ah i'll have to track you down when you're in beacs! Will do, Baz - very very nice zed you have there! :D
-
Hi!
Cheers for the warm welcome lads! They really are lovely cars :) Hopefully I'll be able to find a TT in my price range and do a bit of fixer upping. Rich - I'm from Beaconsfield. so not too far away!

Hi!
Hi there I'm Frazer, 21 and a student just finishing placement year at Mercedes F1 :) Not yet a 300zx owner but while on placement a guy at my work has a 300zx twin turbo, one go in it and I was completely hooked! As I'm near enough 22 with NCB and all the like I did a few cheeky insurance quotes and it looks like its gonna be on the cards! Currently got a 2002 318ci, not exactly setting the world on fire! Joined to learn as much as I can about the motors before looking at them, budget isn't massive, around 2.5-3k but it seems there are a few needing love around that price. Plus of my previous cars i'd never not be part of (and support) the owners club :) Thanks :)
