To me it was a no brainer, i know that my gearbox is brand new not a “50k” never crunched gearbox”. Also the 98 spec are supposed to be a better gearbox. Some in America are ripping out their gearboxes to upgrade to the 98 gearbox. There’s videos on YouTube of people doing this and giving comparisons. if you do buy from America don't let them talk you into a NA master cylinder (get Twin Turbo) and the gearbox loom is a waste of time getting as it doesn’t save any work i was told. So i could of saved £120.

I just done my Zed. Bought new 98 spec gearbox, etc new from America after being offered a 2nd hand kit in uk for £2.2k ?. Paid about £2.4k for new and shipped. Bought pedals 2nd hand off a member on here and lightened flywheel & clutch. I would say its cost me about £3.8k to get mine totally done.

Do i need anything to attach the gaiter to the centre console? Ordering the last few things to complete the manual conversion, but can’t seem to find anything about how the gaiter stays in place.

Definitely knows his stuff. Brother in law, who took me down is a mechanic and his was impressed with his knowledge of the Zed’s.

Finally got around to getting the Zed converted to manual. Collected it today from powerZed. The difference…..wow!!!, never driven a manual zed before but the difference from auto is huge. Feels so more connected to the driver, feels alot more alert, no more off finding a gear, then changing. Took some getting used to at first, stalled 3 times?. Jim you were right the noise because of the rubber missing??

As Richard said, is my understanding too. My red Zed s2 was uk and had no hold and power and an extra oil cooler. My silver one now has the buttons (not for long though?)

I never knew there was such thing, but I never knew there was a 98 spec manual till I bought one. Same as what you have said stronger and better internals.

Agree, had them on my red Zed. Thinking of going 99 spec front lights in the future , but not 100% if it’s a straight swap or some wire adapting needs doing.

I did research about the 98 gearboxes and seemed like the best thing to do, as I only paid £600/£700 more for all those new bits, than I was offered for a 2nd hand kit in the uk. In USA they are ripping out their manual gearboxes for the 98, cause they say they are that much better ?‍♂️

That’s what I mean, I’m getting things together for my manual conversion and trying to find out what I’m looking for so I know I’m getting a TT manual balance bar. My one has 3 outlets on the left hand side.

What’s the physical difference? Ive seen some with 2 outlets on the left hand side (looking at engine) and some with 3, but I don’t think that’s the difference as my auto bar has 3.

Can’t believe I missed this post?. Welcome back Rich. Hope your well. Just got back on here about 10 months ago, after years away from the Zed scene after smashing up my red Zed (as you might remember?). It is good to see some familiar guys on here, as there’s a huge drop off (understandably) from my first time around on this club.
