Engine tansplant. Help needed!
I am looking for people to help me with my engine transplant. Although i am quite handy with the spanners, this is unfamiliar ground for me! I could really use anybody that has experience removing the engine from the 300zx. Even if you havnt done this before the more people i have helping the better! I have use of a 2 post lift plus any tools i require for two days, Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th November. I can be there from 9am till as late as i need. This is a link to where i will be going, Ramp and Wrench Please Please Please, if anybody can come down and help on either or both days, even for just a couple of hours, it would be very much appreciated! I really need to save my Zed and i cant do it alone. I would even be willing to pick people up and take them home to save there own petrol!!

Dipstick Blown Out
How good are jimmers rates? I haven't spoken to him yet but at the moment he's definatley an option. It's going to be a while before I can afford to fix the zed, but it would be good to know how much it will cost so I can get an idea of just how long it's going to take :)

Dipstick Blown Out
My plan at the minute is to leave it off the road and start saving to buy either parts to take higher boost or an engine with the bits already in it :)

Dipstick Blown Out
Really what i should have done after fitting my FMIC is turn the boost down, not go "1.5 bar! This is great fun!". But having said that, it was fun :p I guess i've learnt my lesson the hard way

Just off out with the Mrs now mate, can call tomorrow if your free? I'm more than happy for the car to sit on my sisters drive until i can either afford to get it fixed, or buy bits each month and hope someone can help me fix it. Just glad i have my other car or i'd be screwed lol

Dipstick Blown Out
Any idea of cost of the work?

Dipstick Blown Out
Ok, so having established and come to terms with the fact i've killed it, what sort of work and cost am i looking at to fix it? I sure as hell don't want to get rid of it, even if it means it sits on the drive for a year! What exactly is the problem? Just FUBAR'd piston rings? or could it be other things too?

Dipstick Blown Out

Dipstick Blown Out
Took the car for a gentle drive to Halfords to get a compression tester. Get lots of blue smoke from the left exhaust when accelerating, doesn't seem to be any loss in power or driveability though. Turned the boost down to 0.4 bar to try and prevent further damage. Will do the compression test in a bit. This isnt going to be cheap.....i think i might go have a little cry :(

Dipstick Blown Out
How do i go about doing the compression test? I've never done one before.

Dipstick Blown Out
When i stopped at a set of traffic lights this morning on my way home from work i noticed spoke coming from under the bonnet. I lifted the bonnet to see oil all over the battery and surrounding area. When i shone a light on it i noticed the Dipstick had been blown out a good inch or so. I'm guessing this isnt a good thing, but what is the cause? I recently installed a FMIC, which upped the boost to around 1.4 bar, and noticed on the way home it was only boosting to around 1.2 bar. I imagine the boost is a result of the problem, if not the cause. Any help and advise would be greatly apreciated. I'm very worried about this!! :(

Couple of issues after fitting FMIC
Managed to fit my FMIC this weekend, despite thunder storms. The car is running fine, cant believe the power its added! Just got a couple of little issues. First issue is, the bumper brace bar wouldnt fit back on over the FMIC, even with the middle cut out, so no more fog lights. My question is how deep are intercooler ducts? I only have about 5mm clearance between the bumper and the intercooler, and how to they fit? Do they need to be bonded or do they screw into the bumper? Second little issue is, when i removed the brace bar i found a small black box screwed to it. I have no idea what this is or what it does, so i've relocated it and bolted it to the same place the MAF is bolted to the induction kit (see pic). Will it be OK living there? Other than that the fitting when great, nice and smooth with only minimal trimming needed on the bumper :) Big thanks to Jeff and Jamie at Zworld  here it is fitted before the bumper. With the Mrs cleaning the shiny bits ;)
