Can’t trust the old girl!
The setscrew port was covered by a metallic sticky label that read – do not remove. I removed it and set the ecu to diagnostic mode and got the 55 code. I am wondering whether to risk a test drive – busy roads round here Friday afternoon! If you don’t hear any more from me that’s not good news.

Can’t trust the old girl!
I took the floor panel up to reset the ecu and check any fault codes and this is what I found!? Vodkashots mentioned a set screw on the left hand side?? I think I have a problem this appears to be an aftermarket component. Any advice?

Can’t trust the old girl!
Thanks, I am away tomorrow I can spend a few hours trying to sort the car out on Friday. Perhaps a silly question do you set the ECU to diagnostic while the car is running or when the ignition is off?

This made me laugh (for cat owners)
Thanks for that. I have never seen Simons cat before the animations are brilliant! Took my mind of the car problems.

Can’t trust the old girl!
I am rapidly loosing confidence in driving the Z. [1990 import TT auto]. It has been driving great for the last six months but now things are different. On Monday this week she cut out on a dual carriageway doing about 40mph I managed to coast into a lay-by. I turned the ignition off and it re started first time. I carefully drove the couple of miles home and it stalled on the approach to a roundabout. I eventually made it home with no more problems. I rechecked the likely loose connections I have seen mentioned on the site, cleaned the terminals etc. I have recently noticed gauges not working for a while and then suddenly coming back to life [oil pressure, boost and temperature]. Today I stalled pulling a way at a T junction, the other road users less than sympathetic, again I nursed the car home and notice when the accelerator is depressed the revs drop and then pick up, perhaps this is why it staled pulling away. Could it be that I need a new ECU?

Relocating car alarm siren
Valet mode brilliant!!! I will read up on how to put the code in, yes that should do it. I am in enough trouble with the neighbours I had a blown exhaust for a few days till replacing it. The noise set their car alarm off on several occasions so I am trying to keep a low profile and keep quiet.

Relocating car alarm siren
from Hellraiser - because all thatchem alarms have a back-up siren battery otherwise all thieves would do is rip out the sirens! That’s why I asked about cutting the wires. The siren does have a back up battery and it is fairly new so perhaps this is a silly question how do I move it? If the system has not been activated will the alarm go off if cut and conversely when reconnected will it register being tampered with? Perhaps understandably the alarm company wouldn’t tell me but want £80 to come and re fit the alarm.

Relocating car alarm siren
I am trying to make room for a full size battery in my engine compartment. The previous battery, now dead, was the wrong type being too small and only just man enough to start the car. The problem now is the Hornet car alarm siren is taking up the space needed. How easy is it to relocate the siren unit? If I cut the wires when the alarm is unarmed will it set the alarm off? Actually I would like to remove the siren altogether [it goes off always at the wrong time when voltage drops] and just use the keyless entry and engine immobiliser, is this possible?

Which Battery?
Thanks, I just looked up the item from JeffTT, but that battery is still to big at 261mm x 175mm x 210mm the max size to fit in my bay is 230x175x200. I may have to re position the alarm system to free up space. There is a customised welded panel in the way that the siren and multipoint earthing system is bolted to.

Which Battery?
I am trying to buy a new battery for my 1990 TT auto import, as the old one died. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information from suppliers. H******S and two Internet suppliers want to give me a battery far to large to fit in the limited space. They also have three different specifications for the battery. Does any one know the official Nissan specified Reserve Capacity and Cold Cranking Amps [its not given in the online manual or handbook], I can then find one that fits. The old battery I think was wrong anyway being only 45 Ah, but it did fit.

Bloody shop assistants
I live in Worthing I think I may have been to the same store. A few weeks ago I went to buy a small fridge to go in the garage for beers, what else? They had just what I was looking for and the price was good. The sales person went off to check stock. I waited and waited; another sales person asked me if I was being attended to, I said sort of, and then saw the original woman talking to a new customer. I pointed this out and the assistant went over to the woman. There was a lot of pointing and laughter. It appeared the first woman had gone to the storeroom and forgot why she was there! It then transpired the item was out of stock. I said not to worry I will take the one on display. There was a look of horror on the assistant’s face, ‘sir that is not allowed under any circumstances’. I bid them farewell and promptly left! Or some words like that. Another time I went to purchase a digital camera in a different store. A spotty young assistant came over I explained what I required. I told him exactly which camera I wanted. It was right there in the display cabinet. He panicked and said ‘oh no I don’t know anything about cameras I will get my colleague to serve you’. This was a well-known CAMERA shop; they mainly sold cameras! The colleague shouted back across the shop at the photo ignorant lad and told him he was a complete ******* idiot, a real stupid ****. After this outburst he walked out saying he was on his lunch break. I think the shop has since closed down.

A bit late on this post but I have one on my car.

boost gauge has stopped working
Thanks guys it was the pipe. Coincidence after being in the garage looks like the mechanic was a bit clumsy.

boost gauge has stopped working
The other day my fantastic Z failed the MOT test for two crimes 1. Wrong colour side light bulbs they were white with a shade of blue, so subtle I didn’t even notice they were blue, honest. 2. The smallest corrosion split ever in the middle section of the exhaust pipe = gas leak. It was on a bend and I was told it was not weldable. I was running out of time so I got them to put things right, I had the new ss exhaust delivered to them from zcentre, nice, they fitted it for £50 put the new bulbs in for £2.50 and issued a new MOT. Lambda sensor wires not connected as an advisory, the inspector said next time it may fail it on that issue. Question - OK all that aside since getting the car back the boost gauge has stopped working. The car is boosting. It’s a standard Jap import type +7 –7 display. Is there a quick fix, the garage doesn’t want to know about it, grumbling it nothing to do with them and they say the car is to complicated to work on. I was going to get them to replace the cam belt not now. Oh and they scuffed up one of my alloys.

cambelt risk
The cambelt on my newly acquired Z was changed back in 2005, 40k miles ago; I know the book says 6 years and 50k miles. I was planning to change it in the autumn, as it needs to be off the road for a good few days for other work to be done. I plan a few longish motorway journeys over the summer perhaps putting 1500 - 2000 miles on the clock. Is it worth taking the chance? This may seem a daft question but is there any warning before it snaps, noise vibration, performance etc.

Air con, con?
OK Marty I will have the whole unit.

Air con, con?
Thanks Marty it’s a bargain but I will try replacing the clutch assembly first as Legrath suggests, seems an easier first option. Do you have a decent clutch assembly going spare by any chance?

New TT owner
Hi Dave, welcome. Sorry to hear about your spoilt ride. Your right these Zs are addictive. Thanks for the tip off about bargain parts.
