Insurance total loss
That was my poor old car. To be honest I was thinking of selling it soon anyway and was worried I wouldn't even get that much for it as it was starting to get rather haggard so I'm happy with how things turned out really. Just got the fun of getting a new car now, not sure what to get though... Anyways, it was a fun first car to own!

Can you help?
Cheers to everyone who's done the survey so far, it's really helpful! As for engine layout it's pretty much a given that the car is MR/RR due to the size of the vehicle etc (google formula student if you want a better idea). As for the driver involvement you have a good point there and that's part of what I was getting at by separating ease of driving from cornering ability etc. (I would add in an extra section about involvement but I've got the maximum number of free questions....). I'll put up anything interesting that happens with the project as it progresses.

Can you help?
I'm taking part in the Formula Student class 2 entry at uni and we're hoping to do a bit of research into what people actually want from a single seater track day car. So I've made a quick survey (takes less than 5 mins to do) and hopefully some of you guys can do me a big favour and fill it in. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/X7LQVMV If you think there's anything major that you'd want from a car like this which isn't mentioned in the survey then feel free to post it here, it'd be really helpful. Cheers, Jim

Black Zed Coventry
Can't remember where exactly I saw it in Coventry but it had Ferrari rear lights.

Silver Z32 edge of Warwick University
Yeah it's been a couple of times to be checked over. Seems to be good mechanically, just looks tatty.

Silver Z32 edge of Warwick University
I've got a 1991 UK, as I said it's pretty tired out but I'm hoping to get it looking a bit more presentable over the winter. Still it's worked out as an interesting first car, more fun than a Corsa/Polo/etc would have been but it seems to have a habit of going wrong roughly every 2 months in some way or other, I guess that's to be expected to some degree of a car nearly 20 years old.

Sounds like a nice car, mine's pretty haggard at the moment. I'm hoping to start fitting it with some nice new parts and bits of trim this term at uni. I might have to drop by the Med school campus some time, I'd bring my zed but it's shameful....

Saw it on the way into uni, didn't get much of a look but I'd be interested to see who's nearby.

Newcomer with a question :)
Also here's a few pics of the zed when I first got it seeing as I never put any up orriginally: The spoiler isn't looking so good any more though:

Newcomer with a question :)
Well it's a few more months down the line and I'm thinking of playing with the boost settings, how many ponies would be expected at about 13-14 psi? Also what are boost injectors? Are they just larger ones essentially? Where's the best place to get some of these or a boost controller? Reading back through the posts I don't seem to have any of the typical stage 1 upgrades. I think I just have the different ECU, it was Zedworld who told me about it, I wouldn't know the difference probably. On a side note are Mongoose exhausts any good? How do they compare sound wise to the stock exhaust.

Warning lights....yay....
I tried that but I had no luck, garage in the morning....

Warning lights....yay....
I don't know if it's new, I've never looked before really, though it wasn't like that in the spring I think when I got the engine oil changed. It was at Zedworld in April or May so it's only been like that a couple of months max. Something tells me I'm ringing the local Nissan garage tomorrow and getting a train and taxi to work....

Warning lights....yay....
Here's a couple of pictures of the diff: Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Warning lights....yay....
What about the oily diff casing?
-
Warning lights....yay....
I had a look underneath the car and although there weren't any pools of oil or anything but the outside of the diff was covered in a coating of oil, I'm taking it that's a bad thing... Still doesn't explain why the transmission oil light was on or are they linked?
-
Warning lights....yay....
They didn't seem particularly dim but it was in daylight so it's hard to tell.

Warning lights....yay....
The car starts fine, the second time I tried today the lights didn't come one till a few couple of minutes after I started it but it was all three both times.

Warning lights....yay....
We had some epic rain the last couple of days here in Exeter and when I went to drive my car today it come up with warning lights for the lights, mission oil, and diff oil. This is not what I need when I have to get to work on Monday... Is it possible that all three of these things would go simultaneously or is it likely to be some problem with the electrics? I checked the lights and they were all working I think, couldn't check the brake lights as I was on my own and there were no reflective surfaces :( I'm going to try again in the morning but is there anything I should look for that might be the cause?

Which car?
As you can tell I didn't read the second page before typing that reply. When I say my car needs a grand spent on it I'm just guessing really. It needs a new exhaust, new bits of trim variously, the spoiler needs repainting/replacing, needs a new undertray thingy, it's making some crunchy clunky noises on the front suspension area and it recently started blowing blue smoke when I start it. There's other things I'm sure so it could well cost more than my estimate to fix nicely. I think what I like about the S2000 is that it's meant to be pretty damn bullet proof, with all those good survey results etc.

Which car?
Well I could always get a turbocharged S2000.....I've seen a few

Which car?
I have a manual LWB blower currently, and it's the only car I've ever owned so I'm as used to driving the fat arse as much as anything. The only other car I've driven much is my mum's Volvo 940 which ain't exactly dainty... In the end though I'd kind of like to get a car from 2000 onwards, just for the peace of mind and the only cars of that age in the right kind of price range are the S2000 and 350Z and a few German cars. Don't be too harsh on Honda, the NSX is sexy as hell...and £20000....
-
Which car?
If I could find a clean SWB blower for reasonable money it does sound along the lines of what I'd really like from my car.
-
Which car?
Commonness wise I don't see many S2000's really, where as I see 1 or 2 350Z's every day regardless of where I am. I'll admit that I barely ever see a 300ZX but on the other hand the rarity of the car has bit me in the arse when it came to fixing things before.
