Proposing to someone you've never met, online...
The story was linked off digg.com - apparently it's an MMORPG site (massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, I think).

Proposing to someone you've never met, online...
Seems they've taken it offline for now, there were about 2,000 people on the thread. It might come back on later, but for now, for your viewing pleasure, a partial mirror : http://fesk.net/mirrors/showthread.php.html

Diagnostic software
Cheers - have seen these. Am continuing to work on my own for now, more for the fun of doing it and having it exactly as I want it than anything else. I've got Datascan working under WINE for now, so it's one of those "when I have time and nothing else is important" things.

Diagnostic software
I'm in the process (a very slow process, lots of other things going on) of writing a linux server daemon that will talk to the ECU through a datascan cable. I've got the initial server pretty much done, just taking lots of time writing header files with all the addresses and codes in. My carpc is linux-based, and I wanted something native to talk to the engine.

Hesitation, speedo and free miles - what ?

Hesitation, speedo and free miles - what ?
Cheers. I have thought about getting a new cluster, but I wanted to make sure that it was really that before I bought one; I've removed it and checked for dry joints etc within the cluster already, but I think I'll have another go at that as well as cleaning the connections. With regard to the other point, do you think driving in the medium-term without any feed from the speed sensor / etc will do any harm ? Was thinking that if there's no feed giving the speed, the ECU may think the car isn't moving. I'm aware there's a different feed to the ECU than the one to the clocks but that's about all I know in this area :)

Hesitation, speedo and free miles - what ?
Hi all. I've been having a couple of issues over the last few months that are mainly niggles, since ztech (thankyou) fixed the major bits. My speedo works intermittently (it's not the speed sensor, ztech checked it); it mainly does one of the following 4 things: Stays at 0. Stays at 180+ Reads speed between 100 and 160 (when driving normally :) ) Sticks at 60 or 120. I'm pretty sure that it's just the loom between the speed sensor and the clocks, as it works when it's been dry for a while and also when wiggled a lot. Additionally, just recently I've noticed that either my fuel consumption has gone mad, or the odometer isn't working. So far I've had 45 miles out of a full tank - it only seems to work now when the speedo is working, but that didn't happen before. Finally, it's also hesitating quite severely on some occasions (always when the speedo isn't working) - when pressing "go", the car thinks about it and then takes off. I'm intending to clean the connections etc, but I'm a little worried that I might be doing some damage - I imagine the car thinks it's not moving at all when I'm driving, and wondered how serious that is... Sorry for the long post, please help !

I've just bought....
Just to let you know : I tried using velcro for sticking a GPS bluetooth unit to the dash (as a temporary measure). Worked fine until we had some hot weather, then the heat made the adhesive on the back of the velcro turn into runny goo. Stained the dash a little bit and took quite a bit of cleaning off.

What do you think about what this guy did ?
Guy makes up advert, posing as a sub. woman after a dom. man. Then he posts all the replies including pictures and email addresses (and quite a few are from people's work accounts). http://www.waxy.org/archive/2006/09/08/sex_bait.shtml#073203 Seems he may be guilty of violating privacy laws...

MOT failure due a teeny-tiny bit of rust
I got the guy to show me when it was on the lift, there are several finger-sized holes all over the multiple "excessively corroded" areas. I'll put some photos up this weekend.

MOT failure due a teeny-tiny bit of rust
Hehe, yep. I'm going to get a special plastic bag to put the car in when it rains or whenever there's more than 30% relative humidity I think.

MOT failure due a teeny-tiny bit of rust
I know it's not a small amount :) Just been to a local welding shop for a quote, £300 all in. Lucky day :)

MOT failure due a teeny-tiny bit of rust
Thanks for your advice - was having thoughts along the same lines myself. I'm kind of hoping that I will be fortunate with pricing; I've found a welding shop in York that has a great reputation for doing this kind of work at a good price and I'm going to see him again tomorrow. He had half a bus on the shop floor next to a couple of sports cars and a volvo when I went last time so I'm thinking he's at least trustworthy. Here's hoping...

MOT failure due a teeny-tiny bit of rust
Spot the sarcasm there... Anyway, failed my MOT today with the following items; 1. Offside (outer sill) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded 2. Offside rear (sill back x2) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded 3. Nearside (sill back) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded 4. Offside front (sill back) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded 5. Offside rear (inner wing x2) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded 6. Nearside rear (inner wing) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded 7. Offside rear brake pipe excessively corroded 8. Rear brake pipe excessively corroded 9. Nearside front (to rear) brake pipe excessively corroded 10. Service brake efficiency 45% - below threshold I bought some rear sill return repair bits from Mike@MJP a couple of years ago (thanks Mike). These were fitted, and supposedly the brake pipes were sorted out as well (very similar fails 2 years ago) so I'm going to have to get it repaired. Few questions; 1. If the repair panels have already been put on, is it OK to put more on ? 2. I know it's hard to say without seeing the damage, but does anyone have any idea how much work this could be ? (hours or cost, roughly) 3. Is it safe/acceptable to have the brake pipes re-routed so that the rear sub-frame doesn't have to be dropped ? Obviously I'm also somewhat miffed that the £400 I paid to have the work done 2 years ago apparently hasn't been done, but there's sod all I can do about that as he's retired since. :headvswal If anyone's got the time to help out with any suggestions or anything it would be much appreciated ! On a very tight budget at the moment so if this is going to cost a fortune it's going to have to be SORN. Going for a quote tomorrow morning, so wanted to get a rough idea of what I might be looking at ! Cheers :(

When I lock my door
There was an alarm fitted to mine which the guy before had removed and done some interesting wiring with the door solenoid - that was the source of the noise. I replaced the plastic lock bit and sorted the wiring out and it went back to normal.
