Probably a leak,hence the heater being cold. make sure the guy pressure tests the system,can be hard to trace.

Dan,these are well known for diffs going!-oil change won't alter the fact it's fooked! Check the rear bearings and also the rear brakes!(sounds silly I know,but these being worn down give similar noises!)-if these are sound I would 99% say the diff. HTH,;)
