Just a guess mate, but I reckon you bare the cable and solder it in there! The insert looks like a gland nut and probably holds the outer insulation secure?

Thought I'd go for a run yesterday now I'm all legal like! Nipped round to see Slick 'steptoe' Pete and was the first time I actually got on a decent stretch of road in 5th! Speedo' showing 105mph at 3k rev's so the gearing isn't far out at all! Nice thing is at 3k, I push on the gas and she just goes even in 5th :nana2: Gonna' make up some kind of cold air induction tho' as it gets mighty warm under the bonnet and the air filter is sat in the middle of it! :headvswal later peeps! ;)
