Knackered Battery?
Hey Guys, before I go out and buy a new battery, can you help me make sure that this is the issue? I managed to flatten the battery the other day (forgot to turn the map light off :(). I got a couple of lads to push start the car, and off I went, car alarm blaring. Drove around for about 20 minutes to get some charge back into the battery, stopped and sorted out the alarm. Restarted and everything was fine. Went off up the M11 for 70 miles. Parked up at the festival and got *****xed :duffer::duffer: Tried the start the car this afternoon to come home, and battery is flat again. Got a jump start and came back to London. For some reason the Hicas light came on (dunno if this is just coincidence). Anyway, got home, everything fine. Just went out to get something from the car and thought, let's just turn it over. Result: nada. All charge gone in under four hours! So, do you think it's just a knackered battery, or do you think there might be something more serious at work? I'm assuming the alternator is good, because the car works and the battery warning light hasn't come on. And what battery would you guys recommended? Ta, Chris

cheap shocks
Just got them fitted on mine, with Eibach springs. They really have made a massive difference to the car :D. No more rolling around liked a drunken sailor when going over bumps on the motorways :hurl: Chris

Advice needed RE Old Laptop: can it be improved?
Yes, they're all the same. The only possible problem that you might have is if the laptop's BIOS doesn't want to read disks that large. Shouldn't be a problem ,but if it is you should be able to download a new BIOS patch from Fujitsu Siemens' site.

Advice needed RE Old Laptop: can it be improved?
Pick which ever is cheapest and in stock. You'll need a new PC before the drives die!

Which disks to fit?
Cheers for the answer Dub, but I think you're already talking about more of an upgrade than I'm considering at the moment :) But don't let that stop you from posting piccies :D I was just wondering if the assembled heads on the forum could give me a few insights into the differences between the 3G and DBA disks so I can have an idea about how much money to spend. I'm only replacing the disks because the old ones are worn out - not because I thought the stock ones were rubbish. My Zed is currently being brought to life by Dazkent , so I thought I'd take the oppurtunity to make a few minor upgrades as we go. I haven't really had a chance to drive it yet because it wasn't really roadworthy when I bought it.

Which disks to fit?
Hi guys, I need new disks so I'm wondering about 3G and DBA. Given the cost differences, what are the benefits going to be? the Zed is still essentially stock, and will stay that way, so I don't need the big brake kit or anything silly. Most of my driving is going to be hooning around B-roads in Northumberland, so the brakes will need to be a little bit good (otherwise I'd just go to Kwik Fist), but I'm not likely to be tracking any time soon. chris

High power advice
I think being scared is a very sensible state of mind in this instance. It should prevent you from being stupid. ChrisC's advice is good, and the corollary is: "only stamp on the anchor if you're going in a straight line, too". While the brakes and suspension should have been uprated to go with the power, it's unlikely you'll be rolling on slicks, so the tyres could catch you out. Above all, don't behave like a chav!! :) Chris

TV / phone / Broadband
Ignoring 'naughty' numbers, there are all sorts of other premium rate numbers that can whack up your bill without you noticing. Have you been talking to any computer support lines, like Dell or Tech Team? But I'd bet on the baby,TBH :D Chris

TV / phone / Broadband
Or it could be excessive use of those 0898 numbers ;)

Bhp
I think this will depend entirely on how the car in question has been driven and maintained over time. Bad maintainance and thrashing the nads off it doing 20k miles a year will cause the engine parts to wear faster and hence lose efficiency faster than something well maintained and driven 'sedately' 2k miles a year. And remember, some of the cars on this site have double the BHP they started out with! :D

Can i find somebody
Can you look them up in the phonebook? If they're in a different area from you, libraries normally have copies covering the whole country. In theory, you shouldn't be able to get their address from the web 'cos of the Data Protection Act (this also - stupidly - applies to directory enquiries). Chris

Well, the money has left my Lloyds account now, so hopefully it should be showing up somewhere in the club's account. Patience? I don't have any, I'm not a doctor! :D

Any idea when that might be? I'd be interested in a set from him if it saves me time getting them shipped from the guys on fleabay.

Shocking Advice, please
Are there any advantages to coilovers for me considering that the car will probably never get nearer to a track than the car park? TMTTP, thanks for the links - i'm chasing shipping costs already :)

Shocking Advice, please
could I keep the current springs with the KYB shocks? I'm not sure I want the car lowered - it's already grounding when I go over the speedbumps near my house! Although I suppose that could have something to do with the knackered shocks. And where's a good place to get this kit from? Smithy's is asking £460 just for the KYBs which looks a little expensive?

Shocking Advice, please
My zed is down at D2 for some serious TLC (much welding, amongst other things), and Darren has told me that all its shocks need replacing :( So, I've done a quick search on the site for previous discussions on the matter, and I still think I'd like your input. Basically, I've got a stock 93 UK LWB TT. I'm not into massively modding it up, more interested in restoration, but I'm not against minor improvements in handling (and power - but that's a thread for another day). The question is: do I fit stock shocks (cheap option) or do i spring for something else, and if so, what do i go for? Chris

Just pulled a cute little bird, but need some help...!
You want to be careful doing that; my dad ran over a rabbit a few years back (accidentally) and somehow its bones managed to puncture both ns tyres! He reckoned it was revenge from all the ones he HAD aimed for :) Chris

Stevie, what sort of stuff are you doing? I have many years of SQL and VB experience, and somewhat fewer of .NET 2.0. And why are you replacing your 'tractors? Chris
