  1. :-S doesnt sound good as its directly related to engine rpm. ill get a sound recording tomorrow if i can.
  2. About 2 days ago there was an unusual "rattling" noise coming from the engine bay, however before i was able to investigate it has now gone. But the engine has lost its v6 grumble, sounds much higher pitched and like a ford fiesta :headvswal Doesnt seem to be any change in performance. But it is a really really loud and annoying noise. Its like a whinning noise which directly matches the revs of the engine and listening under the bonnet sounds like its coming from the engine block :-S. Any ideas?
  3. funnily enough, yea it is. But they didnt put the wheel nuts on, i did and i only did them by hand. I dont generally put them on too tight, just enough so that they dont move. The garage said that the remaining nuts were only on finger tight and that i should have tightened them up more. Dont get me wrong i agree that it doesnt sound right, but i very much doubt the overtightening is the cause in this case as i know how little "force" i used. EDIT: When they last snapped when the rear brakes were getting done i did think that it was the garages fault, but these were put on by me and have snapped off whilst driving.
  4. The rings are there. Local garage has had a look and they blame the wheels. They've said that the nuts provided dont sit in the drilled holes properly and as the wheel is turning its pushing the nuts at very slight inward angle which is shreading the threads then eventually snapping the studs. Stupid cheap ebay alloys :-(
  5. Good suggestion. When i fitted the wheels i definately put the plastic rings in. But it could be possible they have come off when the garage replaced the brakes and they didnt realise.
  6. 3 on one wheel and 2 on another! :-S luckily i think 2 of them have only snapped this morning minutes away from the garage as it looks very fresh steel (no brake dust or road grime compared to the other broken ones). both the wheels at the back.
  7. Something isnt right with the ones that are on the car now. 5 of them have simply snapped off whilst driving! I only noticed today so could have been a week or so since they snapped off  Im trying to source some longer ones, but goes to show, check your wheel nuts frequently!
  8. Aw man, ive been at that roundabout a lot this month, would have been cool if all 3 of us pulled up at the same time lol.
  9. my first thought was the heaters or air con, but surely they shouldnt be making a noise if they are both switched off. Its really loud at idle and can be heard a few feet away from the car. Will do a search for Aiv. EDIT: "this could be the aiv in the wing. does it sound more like a gurgling noise as in drinking the last bit of water from the bottom of a cup. you get that slurp. if so you need to drain the water in the U shaped pipe that goes to the unit. there is a guide somewhere." lol that will be it. Thanks :-)
  10. Ok so now there is a new problem with the car before ive had chance to fix the others. There is a noise coming from behind the glove box which sounds like someone sucking a straw constantly in a nearly empty cup, but the only thing i can find in the area is the battery. Is there something under the battery or behind the glove box which uses a liquid?
  11. i did a search and i found quite a few people with similar problems, but none of them seem to have got back with a solution lol. Is it just something i have to live with or will replacing the convertor chip fix the problem? I just checked the battery, ill check the alternator etc tonight :-) Yea, bearings in the prop shaft were my first thought with the location and speed of the noise, can these be checked visually or is it worthwhile just replacing them anyway? Wasnt sure if any of these faults were connected, but its not seeming like it.
  12. check battery connections and all seems fine. 2) Power steering fault is now getting more frequent and lasting longer, this is getting quite a dangerous feature and is making the car undriveable. 4) Flat-spots in acceleration have started to appear between 1-3k revs in every gear :-S
  13. Ok so im having a really hard time pin pointing some very annoying faults with the car: 1) At high speed and at high revs there is an electrical fault. For example, as i approach 60mph in 3rd gear the lights go really dim and all the electrics in the car flicker and pretty much cut out. But its only in this gear at this speed. :headvswal 2) Power steering cut out yesterday for about a quater of a mile. then has been fine since. :headvswal 3) The is a really serious sound noise coming from underneath the car, but it is tempramental. It sounds like a twig stuck in bike spokes, but its loud enough to be heard from several streets away (ive had people tell me theyve heard me coming just from this noise). The frequency of the noise is directly proportional to wheel speed, not engine speed. Its coming from the front of the car, however it changes sides, sometimes it sounds a bit to the right, sometimes to the left. and some days its not there at all. The noise goes away on acceleration. I will try and get a sound recording of it. :headvswal Any ideas? EDIT: Oh yea its a 91 NA Z32.
  14. lol. looks all too familiar....wait....yup, thats my wheel lol. The guy who balanced them said the wheel might have been dropped in transport to throw it so far out, dont know if what he says is true. EDIT: Plus i think there are some more weights on that wheel further around.
  15. Ahhh cool (lame pun). Thanks :-)
  16. I seem to have what looks like a light sensor on my dash right next to my windscreen, any ideas what its for? (and dont say detecting light :smash:)
  17. I have Jap clocks with the mph sticker over the top. The convertor is really easy to wire in. Not sure where you can get them from though. Its just a matter of clipping a few wires behind the dash then wiring a small black box in place, all the wires are labeled/colour coded. EDIT: Plus the grey wire which is supposed to go from the convertor to the ECU has been clipped off on mine, so the ECU reading goes straight from my Speed Sensor from what i can gather. EDIT2: Here is a pic from when I ripped mine out for no apparent reason, 3 wires, Signal In, Signal out and 12v which you can get from your clocks.
  18. fingers crossed i can get mine in soon, ive sent an email to Jeff to try and get it booked in ASAP. Needs Timing belt, waterpump, speed sensor and to find out where a really weird annoying noise is coming from lol.
  19. There is a black Zed in York which is apparently almost identical to mine, i havent seen him driving around but he is getting me into trouble lol. I keep having people come up to me and saying they saw me driving around so so the other day when it wasnt me! Would be cool to meet up with the illusive identical twin.
  20. thank god someone else has said this lol. I have to look like a tit every time i fill up and i pretty much have to hold the nozzle upside down to get it to work. i used to hold the nozzle out of the tank and squirt it in kinda thing, but after getting covered in petrol 2 or 3 times i decided it wasnt the best way of doing it.
  21. Tried that and it didnt work, also lost power steering when i removed the chip. That was the only time i lost pas and it started working again as soon as i wired the chip back in, also the grey wire to the ECU goes no where and doesnt seem like it ever did. EDIT: just re read about the autobox lol, mines a manual. I really should put it in my sig. Its a 91 NA manual.
  22. pretty much guessing, i had a local garage check it out but im not convinced they knew exactly what they were checking, i looked at the end cap on the speed sensor whilst they had it up and it looked ok. ill just replace the whole sensor and see if that fixes it....where do you get them from? lol.
  23. ok so ive checked everything out (speed sensor etc) and all seems fine so the last remaining thing to do is to resolder the the dial, i was going to do it this afternoon but then this happened.... I was driving back from a friends house when the needle suddenly shot to 140mph, it stayed there for a few moments then went off the scale (180mph+), now the speedometer is working above 60mph, but invertedly, for example when i hit 60mph the clock drops down to 140mph, then as i go faster the clock drops to about 130mph respectively. but as soon as i drop below 60 it goes off the scale again, could this still be dry solder joints causing this?
  24. Cool, ill give it a go myself then. I have a friend with a pit so ill just have to ask him nicely and maybe get him a pint.
