Testing soleniod
great thx, was a bit scared of melting something by doing it wrong :nelson: good news, it all seems to work fine, so i'm sure its the immobiliser thats gone pop When i have everything back together, can i run a wire straight to the solenoid to bypass the immob? when the immob was working it wouldnt allow the car to crank so i'm guessing that if i can crank it, the immob prolly won't be screwing around with anything else that would stop me getting it going. If all else fails, I still need to get the thing to an auto electrician but seem to remember that bump starting turbos is not good for them?

Testing soleniod
further to my rollcoaster of a thread a few posts down, I have found what the awful grinding sound was when trying to crank. A bolt had fallen out the starter and it was hanging off the gearbox :o Have fastened it all back up and reconnected the battery...now it won't even try and crank :( I suspect the immobiliser has thrown a wobbler but just in case thought I'd test the starter. Do I connect the big bolt on the soleniod to the battery + connect the battery - to the starter bracket for earth and then stick positive on the small black wire coming off the soleniod? Picture to explain what I think i'm surposed to be doing :D

Starter motor grinding, can't start
HELP! AA's on the way but it started sounding a bit dodge a few days ago, like the teeth were slipping a bit. now its gone the full hog and make a horrendous grinding noise when trying to start. Could the starter have come loose? I could hear some jingling and noise when it started getting ropey. Is it easy to get to the starter to check? I don't even know where to look for it :o

Hairy tyres
had the Z about 6 weeks and guess the tyres have done about 3k mebbe. didnt like the tyres tbh since they dont grip well until well warmed so i've kinda been abusing them to get the heat up. good excuse to get some t1r's i spose :) only knackered on one side tho

Hairy tyres
Had to go from cornwall to newport to manchester to london and back to cornwall in 2 days doing site visits. had to drive like a loon to get round everyone in time. had a nite at my bother in laws last nite. Its the 1st time he's seen the new Z, naturally i took him for an educational crusie round the A roads and let him have a razz round the twisty bits around the cliffs. 0.5k from home felt the ass end waving around and pulling to the side, got a flat tyre. They are run flats so managed to limp home. tried to pump it up on the off chance that it was a pixie magic self repariing one. I could hear the air escaping from around the back of the tyre so felt around to see if I could discover what had happened to it. Half the radius around the back is ripped up rubber and torn steel! to think an hour earlier we were giving it stick around the coast roads with a bit of armco between us and a 50ft drop and we almost took his 4 year old son in the back (before we decided against it, just in case). Is this likely to be suspension or just hard cornering?

Rev 3 or 4 gearboxes into a 1990 Z
spose about now I could yarn on about my unprecedented knowledge of z32 tranmissions and reminisce over the finer points of their revision histories but it would be a lil cheeky considering i nicked it all from here: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=85087&highlight=gearbox+revisions :D presumably rev4 / 98 boxes are harder to get than a bank loan atm?

Rev 3 or 4 gearboxes into a 1990 Z
Just a quickie, I gotta 1990 fairlady. will a rev 3 or 4 gearbox be a straight swap? I presume the later revision is the one to have, anyone know the difference between rev3 & rev4?

Ed's Zed baby
Thort I'd say hi proper now I've bought a Z Thanks to Ed (edk83) for a smooth deal :) Have come over from the gt4oc since I fancied a lil more 'oomf' and jesus it's like piloting rather than driving! Only had high power 4wd's before, the Z's like if Humvee made a rocket powered go kart

Exedy Clutch?
coming from celica territory, heard they are a good deal :) always liked the idea of rattley twin plate clutches myself. apparently in japland your a no one at the lights unless your clutch rattles like hell :)

Zed hunting
Got a fairly good shortlist now. One i'm edging toward is all fandabulous except a bit of seepage underneath. It been standing for at least a day and there was some fluid on the tarmac underneath it about the size of a 20p. Could someone in the know take a look at this and tell me wether this is fairly normal for a '94 or expensive to have fixed if it requires it. http://www.pvcextrusions.co.uk/dl/Zed.pdf I've also included some other random bits of chassis and wheels for your general amusment :) anyone who wanting to sell a manual tt give me a pm with spec and best price sharpish as i'm going to buy this weekend if poss...driving a hulking great pajero with knobbly tyres is doing my head in! :headvswal

Zed hunting
Hiya Want to look at some zeds in the coming weeks. Just a few things I cant get my head around. Is buying a fresh import a gamble more so than buying one thats been imported for a few years? I like the idea of a car residing in the uk for at least a few years and getting some service history under its belt. If I turn up at a dealer is it resonable to expect them to have done compression tests etc or no? When refering to the 'fairlady' is that a spec level, like ford Ghia? Is there anyone with conzult on a lappy who would be willing to go around the midlands, or in fact anywhere in the country, and look at a couple of cars. would pay for time and travelling costs of course. Is a divorced downpipe a trade name or the equiv of a external wastegate? great site, thanks for any help you can give me :)
