  1. ok i take it that inside the intake sprocket is a similar design to this:- which by oil pressure being exerted into the chamber advances the timing by up to 20 deg
  2. right how does the vvt work. i know it advances the timing on the intake side via solenoids at the back which allows oil to flow through the intake cam to the front sprocket but how does it actually adjust the cam. whats special inside the sprocket apart from the spring. oil flows into the sprocket but what does it actually do. is there a way of checking that the oil passageways are clear in the cams without removing the sprockets or damaging anything?? the vvt springs job: is it to just take up the slop in the cam or do they do something else?? vvt solenoids: can they be removed and refitted without stripping down half the engine and how can i check operation of the solenoids ( to see if they alow flow of oil through the cams)?? cheers gazzumpt!
  3. around town yes its fine
  4. tensioners are hydrolic and its annoying as it was replaced last year! noise more prominent when rev'd i could have two problems at the same time tho so im going to replace the vvt springs as that has also been mentioned as a common fault for noise. just dont fancy having to strip half the car just so i can see the timing belt. well done nissan!! :xxx: oh and sorry for the shot of my groin lol i didn't want to run the car for too long and forgot to turn off camera
  5. the car is in my garage exhaust noise is it bouncing off of the back wall :p
  6. right not the best vid in the world and the noise is nothing like what it really sounds like as i have just started the car and didnt want to run it long tbh. i think im getting belt slap. i only had it done last year as a 60k service. sorry about the poor quality vid but can only do it on my mobile vid looks like im going to have to take all the covers off to see whats going on! :headvswal
  7. i have taken the timing belt cover off the right hand side cam today and have seen that the belt seems quite loose. i only had the belt changed last year on a 60k service. do the tensioners fail . and would you expect any slackness in the belt at the top of the engine. when running you can see the belt deflect off the cams on the right hand side.(havent investigated any further as of yet as it means draining the coolent and taking off the front pipes. have a vid but not very clear and now scared shitless of the belt slipping on the cams!!! been told not to run it until sure. when the engine was stopped i could easily turn the centre idler by hand and lift belt off the n/s intake sprocket approx 10-15mm of teeth. ran it up again and the belt tightened up there but was worried where it has settled up loose.
  8. only does it when cold. started all of a sudden really. niose at the top of engine and it goes once warm
