electrics, alarms and hesitation
car (NA) has been suffering from hesitation lately so have been going through the big z checklist but one thing im wondering about and wanted to see if it makes sense before spending out occasionally when i turn the key the car would light up as normal and then die before starting, kinda like if the battery was flat but moving the cables on the battery would kick it into life again, and it would start fine, my old battery was pretty old and the connectors didnt fit brilliantly and had a fair bit of play in them, i thought this was causing the miss-starts i replaced the battery for a new better fitting one and cleaned the connectors a few weeks ago and the hesitation stopped completely and it thought it may have been that which was causing it - car was running great but the old problem with the ignition happened again on the weekend (the connectors are fitting perfectly now) the hesitation happened all through my journey home im wondering if it could be a problem with the wiring or alarm what else would cause it to die on ignition like that? and would it be causing the intermittent hesitation problem?? darren

fitting a tailgate skin
they (apart from being amazingly slow) seem to be quite a competent bodywork company though and have done a fair bit of work on another forum members Z! but they say that theres no way that its going to fit? i dont know enough about it to say either way - what kind of word do you need to do to get these to fit??

fitting a tailgate skin
having some work done on the car at the moment including the spoiler being taken off and a tailgate skin put on it got the tailgate skin from luke at the z-centre but the bodyshop are having problems getting it to fit, its a 1990 swb apparently the bodyshop have spoken to luke and hes not been the best of help, and im getting quite pissed off with them cause theyve had it for ages but i dont know enough to actually sort it out, they say the skin fits on one side but not the other but my oem spoiler fitted the car ok!?!? has anyone else had similar problems with these?? or have any suggestions, am trying to get hold of luke as well but thought id post here as well thanks Darren

Cheers for the pics think i will stick with the original lights as per original plan as i like that look should end up looking a bit like the red one in the zcentre pics without the spoiler which is cool, like the look of that one  darren

NZR - MS vs Lynux hosting question
with what you are wanting it for and using dreamweaver if you have to choose 1 then i would stick with a microsoft server, it may not be the best/fastest/setup in the world!!! but in terms of ease of use and the sheer amount of help and examples there is on the web with asp and access/sql etc - i think it beats php for that, just cause its more popular!

new business advice - Part 2
have a look at http://www.securehosting.com/ as well have used them quite a lot and their packages are pretty good! they also do card capture transactions as well so your orders can be processed offline using an epos machine (same as you would do over the phone) - this means you dont have any percentage or other charges that most places take when they do the online processing!!

NZR - MS vs Lynux hosting question
Hi Danny all depends on what you are actually going to write the server script code in linux users tend to use more php, ms is asp both languages have lots of examples and help on the web and all will allow you to do pretty much the same thing - although theres probably alot more asp developers out and newbie help out there asp.net is the latest version of ms asp and probably is a bit advanced for what you need to do with it. but is both swings and roundabouts really ive always used MS hosting packages but thats because its mainly what i work with anyone that uses linux/unix will say completely the opposite if you need any help with the site though just let me know darren

Rap
im with vigilante on this one, i think with most music these days if you eat up whats fed to you from the mainstream then you wont even touch the surface, commercial us rap is big business and what gets exported is mainly the bling bling gangster rap that is almost totally seperate to hiphop, you know when you are listening to hiphop because as much effort is made of the djing and beats as the rapper, check anything by blackaliscous/solesides/quannum, jurassic 5, soul position who have brilliant rappers and dj/producers like dj shadow, cut chemist and rjd2 and then say hiphops all about guns apart from the fact that they are using ryhme, thats about how true it is to the original values and elements, and most true hiphop heads dont rate them either but heck if your choices as an artist are to stay in the gutter with your true music, or make it big time in the states just for singing about guns and hoes, then what are you gonna do???? most rappers/singers would go for the big time - thats why crap tv shows have queues half way round the city for auditions cause everyone wants their 15minutes of fame, the main reason why theres so much of that rubbish is because people buy it same reason theres a continuous supply of x-factor and manufactured boy/girl bands, its not cause thats the height of musical talent, its cause they have a product they know they can sell and most people will lap it up but for every gangster rap record that comes out - theres somebody somewhere putting out original tunes, that you have to look around for, i mean if people didnt go looking for music then everyone would still think meatloaf was the epitome of rock (maybe a bad example) and dont count out other countries for hiphop either we in the uk have some of the best talent out there, roots manuva, phi-life cipher, mark b, taskforce, skitz darren

Transferring of numberplates
do you know if the local offices are able to sort out the retention certificate then and there? or do they have to send the stuff of to swansea?
-
Transferring of numberplates
cherished plates are dateless if yours is basically an A plate might be around 1980ish and probably classed as a prefix plate
-
Transferring of numberplates
think it might depend if its actually a private cherished number if its actually a private number ie: not a P123 ABC then it needs a retention cert before you transfer it to another car, thats the £80 if its just transfering a year prefix plate to another car then it might be just £25
-
Transferring of numberplates
just going through this myself as ive just bought a runaround that the owner has a plate to transfer over to it - as far as ive been able to find out you need to take everything to the dvla and they will give you a date registration for your car and your plate goes onto a retention cert which is £80 and £25 administration fee (but you dont need to pay to put it back onto the other car) they issue tax and mot for the new registration theres a chance the old registration for the car will be given back but if not - a date plate will be assigned, im hoping they can do this on the spot cause im waiting for the car, as sending off the docs and the retention form can take between 2 and 6 weeks theres some good advice here http://www.plates4less.co.uk/number-plates-FAQ/vehicle-registration-documents/index.asp darren
