  2. Jimmer, you are a legend! My partner has done exactly as you suggested and it's working again! Thank you.
  3. Thanks for your help guys. We'll have a poke around inside it and let you know how we go.
  4. Hi Andrew. Yes, that's correct.
  5. Hi guys Got a problem with my offside front indicator not working. My partner has tested various parts of it and found that the bulb is fine, the flasher unit is fine, but the problem lies within the section I've drawn round in red below. Anyone idea where I can get this bulb holder/cable from? Thanks in advance for any help. And also here, a great big thanks to Jimmer at PowerZed for getting the car back on the road for me after local mechanics screwed it up and it was off the road for months. Now just frustrating that I can't legally drive it because of this indicator!
  6. OK guys, thank you for your help as always :)
  7. Thanks Gaz 300, but I live in the middle of nowhere and the only local petrol station doesn't sell anything like that. Would it be OK to put in a small amount of "ordinary" unleaded and then fill it up with the high octane stuff when I get to town? Would you recommend to use the high octane fuel all the time? What difference does it make? Thanks for your help.
  8. Hi guys. My car has been with the mechanic for over six months having some work done and has been returned with absolutely no fuel in it. I have been advised by another mechanic that I should put some kind of additive into the new petrol to clean the system. I know nothing about this (sorry, girly alert!). Could you advise what I should buy please? Thanks in advance for your help.
  9. That sounds about right Bones28. Can you tell me what the EGR is please? Sorry for my lack of mechanical knowledge.
  10. Hi guys. I think we've found the cause of our problems with over-idling. Please could you have another look at my thread here, which i've updated with photos. Need some help identifying the part and advice on how to resolve. https://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?190740-Cooling-fan-over-revving-on-idle-and-HICAS-warning-light Thank you.
  11. Thanks guys. Here's an update. My partner has spent an hour and a half under the bonnet and has found a broken vacuum pipe connector. The pipe is routed under the master cylinder and is pretty tight. Clearly this is the cause of the over-idling. Here it is a bit bent And now straight It seems to be a rigid angled connector - either rigid plastic, or metal. How difficult is this job? We think the mechanic has just dumped it back at my gate because he realises he needs to remove the master cylinder again to fix the problem. Or, that repairing this pipe connector is a difficult job, because it looks like it may be bonded/bolted to the block and you can't get to the fixing without removing the master cylinder again? Can anyone tell us how this connection is made, what it is, is it replaceable, where from, etc, etc? At the moment, it's just flopping about, being held by a small piece remaining connected. We can't get in there and my partner doesn't want to remove it in case the mechanic accuses him of breaking it. Thanks as always for help :)
  12. Hi guys. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Gaz 300, the brake fluid is fine. I have had an issue with the HICAS light coming on briefly in the past, and topping up the power steering fluid cured it. Funkysi, the "mechanic" is based near to me in mid Wales. I don't want to give any specific name or place since I might need to take further action . However, he's well respected in the area and has been in business for more than 30 years. He told us he's worked on Zs before and seemed quite knowledgeable on some specifics. RichardS, it was the panel in the back by the seat that was hanging off. Gray, it was not Lee Bent. Have noted your comments on him (the name says it all)! I am beyond annoyed since I had a really good mechanic before I moved. Being a girly with little mechanical knowledge, they seem pretty difficult to come by. I've had the Z for more than 20 years and have always taken good care of it. Could I have some advice please on what might be causing the fan to run, what might be causing the over-idling and HICAS light to be on, and, most importantly, would you think the car is safe to drive? Thank you for your time.
  13. Hi guys - hope everyone is well. I have (finally) got the Z back after it having been with the mechanic for more than six months, largely for a braking system overhaul (master cylinder and discs) as well as a few other bits and pieces, but nothing engine related. Engine was good as gold. It arrived back with a cracked spoiler, 141 extra miles on the clock since the MOT on June 11th, a flat battery, a door panel hanging off where he'd fitted (badly) a Halfords fog light, oil cap tightened so far we had to undo it with mole grips, and absolutely no fuel whatsoever, which was just a little more than disappointing :( Furthermore, he just dumped the car outside my gate with keys on the drivers side front wheel without talking to me about his work as I'd asked. However, on firing it up, we find that it is idling while still warm at 1400 Rpm when it should sit around 800, the cooling fan is running constantly and the HICAS warning light is on. We started it up, realised it was over-revving, so just drove it up the drive and parked it immediately. I'm not sure what the issue might be. Any ideas please? I should add that the car has been standing (apart from the miles the mechanic did and a couple hundred more) for around 18 months while I was waiting to get it sorted. My partner thinks it may have put itself into some kind of limp mode? PS. Is it legal for a mechanic on trade plates to drive your car for 141 miles? Might this have been necessary to test the braking system? I haven't been able to bring myself to discuss it with him yet. I really hope this isn't a sign of some damage which has been caused to the engine. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
  14. Thanks Richie and Andrew. I have messaged the seller of this item to see if they can help.
  15. Thanks for your help. I've only just seen your PM Andrew, sorry. I have asked my mechanic to check the VIN for me as the car is not here. If anyone comes across anything suitable, please would you let me know. I've asked my mechanic whether the reseal kit would be viable in the meantime.
  16. Hi guys. Hope everyone enjoying their Zs in this lovely spring sunshine. I'm still having a job trying to locate a brake master cylinder. My mechanic has apparently tried Z Centre, All Car Parts Fast and Mike @ MJP with no luck. Says he's located one in Japan at a cost of £350 + VAT and import duty, which would take a month to arrive. He's already had the car for several months and am trying to find one quicker so I can get back on the road. Anyone have any further suggestions please? Thanks in advance for any help.
  17. Hi - anyone know where I can get hold of a red front and rear spoiler for my J reg 1991 Fairlady please? Thanks in advance
  18. Hi Andrew It's the brake master cylinder I need, and discs for both front and rear. My Z is a Jap import (Fairlady). I will PM you the VIN. Thank you for your help. Thanks for your help Jeff :)
  19. Hi guys. Been a while since I've been around. Me and the Z have moved to deepest darkest Wales and I'm looking forward to getting it out on the wonderful roads around here. I need to get hold of a new master cylinder and some brake discs. Could you lovely peeps advise on the best place to get these from please? Thanks in advance.
  20. Thanks gray. Do you have an email addy for him please? I've tried contacting him via Ebay but as yet no response and can't PM as I'm not subscribed.
  21. Hi guys - I need to repair the drivers side rear sill (inner and outer). Since no one has posted on this thread for quite some time, I thought I'd check whether anyone has found any other suppliers more recently? I've contacted Luke at ZCentre and the guy who does them through Ebay, so will find out if they're still available and report back on prices etc.
  22. OK, thanks guys. Grateful for your help, as always. I'll have a word with my mechanic and see what he says :)
  23. Hi guys - hope everyone is well and sorry for your loss of Roobarb. My mechanic has advised that I need a new master brake cylinder. Having had a quick look on Ebay, I see there's a few different models. Could anyone please advise which one I need for my J reg Jap import 1991 300ZX Fairlady (automatic if it makes a difference - sorry, I know very little about mechanics and rely on you guys for help :) ) Also, any advice on where I should get this from, which is best, and how much I should expect to pay? Is there a part number? Or bore size? Thanks in advance for your help as always - The Beast is still running well for the 15 years I've owned it as a result :)
