  1. thanks for the offer buddy but I think ive managed to grab everything I wanted. it even dug up some stuff id deleted months ago... [cough]
  2. i'm with lovefilm.co.uk (and no comments please ;) ) and they're pretty good. you pay for how many you want at a time (one at a time is £8.99 per month iirc)
  3. well there's at least some good news to all this. downloaded four different file recovery programs and found "Recover My Files" to be the best by far. through it i've managed to recover about 90% of my lost stuff  although unfortunately most of them dont have filenames and are just called "recovered_file_5773.mp3" etc. the trial version searched my drive and showed previews of stuff i thought id never see again but you need to register (about £40) to actually save them onto your drive (a second drive obviously so as not to overwrite other 'lost' stuff), which i though was quite reasonable. at least i knew the software had worked before i forked out my cash. you can register online and they send you an unlock code straight away which you just paste into the trial version to unlock it so you can keep using it without having to rescan your drive  today's messages: ------------------ * backup your important files to a second hard drive or onto other media regularly * use Recover My Files when everything goes balls-up
  4. he could have just complained and im sure she would have offered an alternative. "Tariq Sadiq, for the company, said that another Muslim worker, who had won an alcoholic prize in a similar scheme, had "simply" exchanged it for an alternative." 99% of problems like this can be sorted out simply by communicating with eachother. yeah if she told him to like it or lump it then take it to tribuneral. no-one can read minds. d!ckhead.
  5. one of the action replay cheats allows you to press a button combination to send all the opponent cars off the track. you can also turn this cheat off at any time so if you want to cheat a teeny weeny bit (say, to give yourself a fighting chance in the rally stages) then you can use this without spoiling the game.
  6. the best thing about the Zonda is that if someones tailgating you, just fire up the rear-facing gatling gun :D love that program tho - especially the trouble with the car park - I cringed when he grounded the Zonda  Ferrari sounded nicest, GT40 looked the best, and the Zonda is just for playing :D
  7. Hi Rodders and welcome to the club. Here are some answers for you: Turbo - the only 300ZX with a single turbo (as standard) was the Z31 model (1984-1989) which is a completely different car. Twin Turbo - the Z32 (thats more like it ;) ) Fairlady - nickname for the Japanese import version of the car (the Z32) forget the Z31 unless thats the car youre after. 99.9% of this site is dedicated to the Z32. Twin Turbo is fast (0-60 has been quoted as between 5 and 6 seconds although most will agree 5.5 / 5.6 is realistic for a manual transmission. automatics are slightly slower to 60 but slightly faster to 100) standard bhp at the flywheel is usually 280 although quotes of 300 as standard exist too. you can tune it up to 320ish for reasonably little money.
  8. gentlemen i think we've finally got somewhere. :) I think the results of Viniboy's poll speak for themselves
  9. Cheers mate  ;) i think youve hit the nail on the head Nick - "what is drivel and what isn't drivel" if members want to post up "im drunk" or "fart or burp" (my apologies to whoever started that thread) then they should post (or the thread be moved) to Rant Club (or shall we just call it 'unmoderated club'). This keeps General Discussion free for topics which would appeal to a broader audience. (i voted fart)
  10. my £2's worth: i think this club is brilliant, but suffers (as all things do) from a wide variety of opinion and differences as to what is drivel and what isn't drivel. some posts that go up in the general discussion area are definately interesting and useful/fun/etc. some are drivel (but interesting drivel - open to interpretation by 2000 different people as to what intersting drivel actually is) and some are just pointless post-whoring drivel and i think these threads/posts are the ones that some people may be complaining about. Nick - I'm afraid to have to say but your first post annoyed me a bit because at the first sign of a little intervention (im not talking about all the threads that were locked recently, but about this particular thread) you thought well that's it the members aren't free to post up anything they want any more. Over the past few months I can honestly say I've not seen a single bit of moderation - everyone's been free to post whatever they like (useful or otherwise), a lot of craps gone up (again, open to interpretation what crap is and isn't), and now other members of the forum (not moderators) have complained about drivel being posted, albeit I'm not privy to what was said and who said it so this isn't based on any particular fact. But your above post is very interesting, even this thread seems to have drifted slightly from the start topic. The solution? I personally think a separate room (whether it be Rant Club or Fight Club or whatever) is the best place to keep drivel, so the General Discussion room is free for more relevant stuff. Sorry to bring your name up Nick :( . Fire away  . - hops off soap box and dives for cover under a bush
  11. R.I.P. Richard Burns :(
  12. fook me she's got hairy legs - second photo down
  13. great, ive just gone to check out some of my backups and the stupid f00kin program (named and shamed below) has only backed up a handful of files  that means ive lost all of my photos of friends, girlfriend, pets, cars, places, everything... all my vid clips are gone. all this was supposedly backed up. im currently running a couple of HDD recovery programs but i dont hold much hope for them. :( SIMPLY (un) SAFE BACKUP slogan: "Do not use me cos i'll pretend ive backed up your files but i'll only backup 10% of them!"
  14. i think a fiat punto gt turbo maxes out at 22 psi. although its not just about pressure, its airflow too ;)
  15. ok bit more information: 2 year old pc (2.2ghz P4). not sure about scanner age but seems reasonably new. it scans pretty quick which tells me its probably USB2. ive just installed the scanner (on whats left of my pc) and it works now, but thats not really much consolation for what its done to my pc. im sure the missing file's called NTLDR or something (as in Windows NT Loader or Starter or something) although im running XP Home, and not had any problems since ive had it. and no floppy disk hiding in the drive unfortunately :p
  16. youre famous now Neil. give us a wave!
  17. Got a 2nd-hand scanner through the post yesterday. took me half an hour to install the damn thing (no hardware ever installs correctly first time and dont pretend it does!) asks me to reboot, which i do. then it doesnt load windows at all. in fact straight away it says "cannot find NTLDR". so i uses my recovery disk to do a non-destructive reinstall xp, doesnt work first time. do it again and it recovers. loads up xp, then gets a blue screen saying system halted. anyway to cut a long story short i recovered for the third time, after getting weird "delayed write fail" messages and now i've lost EVERYTHING on my hard drive! all ive got is a basic windows xp     just managed to install my broadband software so i could at least get on the net. the good news is that ive got a second hard drive to which i run fairly regular backups (phew) and that is still safe. i just need to download the software to be able to restore all that. i just cant believe how much that scanner fooked up my system. its been absolutely fine for years then that happens. im off to pc world tomorrow to buy a brand spanker anyway. can anyone recommend any software that might let me recover files from the main hard drive?
  18. WOW!!!!   sounds absolutely sweet! congratulations Darren!!

  20. Monty Python and the Holy Grail: John Cleese (as Lancelot) dragging Michael Palin (Galahad) from the young virgin's castle: Cleese: "Come on I've rescued you!" Palin: "No wait I can take them single-handed!" Cleese: "No you can't you're in grave peril!" Palin: "Well I can take a bit of peril..." Cleese: "No you can't it's too perilous!" Palin: "... I bet you're gay!" Cleese: "... no I'm not!"
  21. dont you just love that advert tho
  22. from my experience the ATI cards are good, but compatability-wise they are a nightmare :( a mate and i ended up buying (and refunding) no less than three ATI cards (two of one model and one of another) and swapping them between our PCs to try and get them to work. in the end i had to keep the card he'd purchased for his, and he had to keep the card i'd purchased for mine cos they wouldn't work the other way around   NVidia and C.L. never had a single problem
  23. some good ones there!
