You are supposed to change it but I have never changed one! If moisture does enter it it will be less efficient or may not work at all ,depending on how long the system has been empty and how long you have the system exposed to the elements if the pump was removed. Been running mine for over 2 years with no problems. Best to change it though.

I normally put 8-10 oz's of r134a in and 4oz of pag in the 300zx when retrofitting a system or 4-6 oz's of r12 and 2-4 oz's of mineral oil if recharging an r12 system. if you by chance can get it. I'd advise adding a florecent UV detectable dye, just incase you ever get a leak so its easier to trace. I had to go on a health and safety course in Glasgow this week and during the course this video was shown. A brand new 300zx TT would be more expensive I would have thought if it was still in production and was based on a series 2 or 3 but with a refresh to the styling.
