  1. Went to a tuner yesterday who's just taken one off a Supra TT as it actually lost power on the car. The guy was also charged £900 for it by another company for it!! The problem with it wasn't the fit but the cores were crap.
  2. Is the propshaft obvious? Sorry about all the questions but it's the 1st Z I've worked on!!
  3. Thanks Brian, I know the box ix is held onto the engine with bolts but how many and were they easy to get at?
  4. I am taking the engine out as after getting the inlet manifold off and fighting with the heads (which I lost) I figure it's easier. After a whole afternoon of searching I've found this link http://www.symatix.co.uk/300zx/EngineRemoval/EngineRemoval.htm but it doesn't work :headvswal I have read leaving the autobox is easier and also servicing the tubs to at the same time but can't find a guide for the removal anywhere, any pointing in the right direction would be appreciated. If anyone in the Cardiff area has done this before and would like to help (quite happy to supply a fee and tea) then let me know. thanks
  5. Should be able to make it 12. Anthonyd (Audi A4) Z still not fixed :headvswal
  6. More fun to come then!! Does anyone know a link to the egr thread? starting to wonder if I'm doing the right thing
  7. Thanks for the advice Greg. So far the manifolds off, cam covers and I'm just taking off the cam belt and cylinder head inlet so the heads will be off soon. I can have a look to see then if its just the gaskets gone. If I find more than that I have another engine lined up which just needs sticking back together so I will then take the bottom end out and put in the new one complete. As this is a new car for me to work on and the absence of a manual I thought bit by bit was a better way to start until I get familiar with it. As for Nissan hose overkill - Abosolutely!!! I can see ways to reduce these with direct hose route rather than lots of hose-metal pipe-hose-metal pipe etc One question is the EGR threads, there is a way to reduce the hoses by direct lines or can it be scrapped all together?
  8. Bloody hell, taken me longer than that to get the manifold off  Never seen so many pipes, bolts and crap stuck on a manifold. Think I will look into the egr mods I've seen mentioned to cut down on them. Hope getting the head off is easier!
  9. It's a TT, just found the egr hoses - how the hell do you undo those?
  10. Can I take the head off with the engine still in the car or is it best to take it out? Also apart from the bolts up the centre does anything else hold the inlet manifold on? Taken them out and the various hoses etc but still won't move????
  11. If you don't mind me asking are they a good price?
  12. Hi Mate, Just wondered who was doing the rebuild?
  13. Thanks for the company names, I was hoping to do this myself with a little help. I've done builds before but not on a Z, i try to avoid cheque book cars as it takes the meaning out of doing them for me.
  14. Anybody?? Willing to cover petrol and maybe some extra. Really want to out the engine and get it rebuilt.
  15. Glad you guys had a good meet last weekend, shame I was away so couldn't make it. next time I hope! Anyway as a newbie I was wondering if any members in the Cardiff area have had any experience of removing or rebuilding a TT engine. I've done this with other "lesser" cars but am I little wary on this project. Any help or advice would be appreciated so I can get car back on the road.
  16. Spoke to one or two people who said if all cylinders have compression then the head gasket must have gone big time and warped the heads. Managed to trace the garage that originally sold it, they thought the same when they took it as a part ex. So I think it's engine out time and a rebuild or does anyone have an engine to sell???? One other question, is there a link to a manual for removing the inlet manifold /engine and rebuilds?
  17. Spins quite quick but it must be turning the engine as the cam belts goes round and the pistons move. To be honest this is the 1st 300 I've had and the starter noise does sound different to any other car I've had, doesn't sound like it got much resisting it??
  18. The cover is off on the right hand side so I have seen the belt turning and it is intact and tight. Any other ideas :headvswal
  19. Haven't checked that, looked into the cylinders and the pistons are. what's the easiest way to check, if they aren't what would cause that, the cam belt is ok
  20. First sign aren't good, run a compression test on the left and right front 2 cylinders and getting a reading of 0!!!! even if the engine is knackered shouldn't it read something
  21. As a newbie I would love to attend but off to the inlaws for the weekend :x: Anyway I think I would like to get the beast running first rather than turn up in something else, so anyone one in the Cardiff area who fancies getting their hands oily???
  22. Hi, I've just got my hands on a J plate TT which is a non runner but I'm looking forward to getting her on the road. Despite saying I wouldn't buy anything until she was running the new 18's and some side skirts are on the way!! But I need some help. I have spark and fuel out of the filter but she still won't start, not even a cough or splutter. So my questions What is the best way to check the injectors are firing? Where can I get the metal bits that hold the connectors onto the various sensors, the previous owner seems to have lost them all so the connectors can just be pulled off the PTU etc. Any other things to check??
