Could be a satellite reflecting the sun, yes these are visible to the naked eye, especially at night the glare of the sun makes them look bigger.

Just to add it was Croesco who gave me some good advice on what to get so it might be worth dropping him a PM. The 4 channel DVR with HD was about £110 and 2 cameras at £60 each all from ebay. (Camera's & hard drive bought new, DVR was second hand gives 40 days continuous recording then starts over again.)
